addons author_mapname?
addons author_mapname?
why are some people doing that?
if you open up the map file it tells you who made it so what is the reason you guys name it like that?
the problem is the actual map name gets lost and you can't sort it correctly

Re: addons author_mapname?
I'm guessing it's so the map maker name shows up on the in-game map selector.

Re: addons author_mapname?
It also reduces chances of a naming conflict with other maps.

Re: addons author_mapname?
That's only an issue in terms of being user identifiable without previewing the map, these days, though.

Re: addons author_mapname?
TBH, I'm not too fussed about seeing author name in the map name, but would prefer it to be at end of map name rather than start, as I mainly care about the name of the map when looking for it in big list of maps (and sometimes the end of the map name gets truncated if too long).

Re: addons author_mapname?
When looking for a map, particularly a 4c map, yes, ordering of names does become more important. Specifically, I have loads of 4c maps installed and I tend to go looking for the map name rather than the author name - as the list grows, it gets harder to find the map I'm looking for when map names are prefixed by author names, because the maps aren't appearing where I'm expecting them to be in the list.
A solution to this would be a filter text box above the map list, so I could start typing in a map name and the list would get filtered to show only maps containing the string I've typed in.

Re: addons author_mapname?
We all know it is about me Gentlemen
I have started it with flame 1.2, long before any manuals and older versions, with a lot of help appeared here.
Shortly after me, NoQ appeared, and after us, there was this heavy avalanche of mapmakers and maps. Just Simply look at the dates.
Under no circumstances I will resign from my prefix. Its history is very important to me. Mainly a forum member called Mattbrit, here NEXUS, take great effort to introduce me to FlaMe, although he was in U.S.A and I was in Poland. He taught me how to make a map, I did my first map, but I did not know how to compile it, so he did it for me, and to vary it from his maps, he made this Mero_ prefix. At that time only he and TEXanian called me Mero. It is me and community here who made it so popular.
The sad trututh seems to be, that NEXUS is said to be stubbed into heart by pool cue and died over a year ago in a bar fight. I have no resources to check it, but the truth is he disappeared from here, Steam, and gmail, over an year ago, which may be true. If anyone happen to know anything I will be obliged to be typed P.M.
We have talked for hours via Gmail chat, and it is due to him, I am making maps now, and I have took all the first lessons from at times there was no way to find out things, but by being told.
As a tribute, and sort of trademark, by which people know partly what to expect, I signature as signature. And I believe it was me the first person to use it. Or so widely, so I claim if it happen such things to be thought to be forbidden to keep it as it is. We all know many changes went so far, and many will be made.
It is me Mero, and always will be. All my maps have quite unusual names I think, and as my friends states earlier, have particular issues and serve particular purposes.
Regards,
Mero, I hope I do not have to signature MeroWINGG obliged by a rule soon eh?

If you talk about addon sight try filter by title.aubergine wrote: A solution to this would be a filter text box above the map list, so I could start typing in a map name and the list would get filtered to show only maps containing the string I've typed in.
In other cases It just map name.

Re: addons author_mapname?
Usi Unix o archlinux, ubutntu , android?
Thore sono solo nome di fabbrica qualcuno preferisce non scrivere il suo nome di qualche altro preferisce metterlo.
perché questo deve essere un problema?
che fanno la mappa crea il suo nome.
puoi scaricare e giocare o no, come si preferisce
Dobbiamo rispettandolo.

Re: addons author_mapname?
You guys do see that the author of said addon is very clearly listed, on the addon site global list (hint, look at author column), addon site detail list, and also in the map file itself, and on these forums, but that isn't enough ?
You ask me, it is highly annoying.
At this rate, we need to make filters that remove certain map authors from the listing, so we can at least see a alphabetical list of the addons.
I would also like to remind you that in game, there is a limit of filename size, and if you have lots of maps with <INSERT_MY_NAME_HERE>_actual-map-name.wz you end up with a listing of only the prefix of the map, instead of the actual map name.
Suffix would be better, if you are really that vain.
actual-map-name_<INSERT_MY_NAME_HERE>.wz
But, the best still is, actual-map-name.wz
