Still Alive

Post by Black Sabbath »

Black Sabbath would like to say THANK YOU..THANK YOU..THANK YOU..THANK YOU..THANK YOU.. to all involved in finally getting my favorite game to this state.

I downloaded the latest version but it only gave me a black screen when launched. I tried with the same results for the debug version. I then downloaded and installed ver 2.1 rc1 debug and it worked. For what its worth I did get an Assertion Failure during the game but I just clicked ignore and the game continued.

Since it was the first game I had played in a few years I thought it wise to fight a defensive battle so I just built trucks and machine gun bunkers (it's ammazing how much punishment these can take) and started the research process to obtain the weapons I desired.

Image

I went with a combination of Pepperpot Pits, Pulse Lasers, and whirlwind AA fighting on the SK Valley map. Once I had V Tol capabiility I built pulse laser v tols and linked them to a strike tower. Other than construction trucks these were the first vehicles I built, up to that point everything had been base defences built by trucks.

Image

A bit more research and I finally had the ability to build a few tracked dragons with pulse lasers, seen here on their way to deliver a bit of retribution to the first of my 3 unlucky enemies. Other than construction trucks and v tols these are the first mobile forces I have built. Go big or stay at home. I just drive right through the front door of the enemy base and out the back door with a trail of smoking rubble left in the wake.

Image

Another group of tracked dragons with pulse lasers ammassing for an attack on my final enemy.

My first group Auto healing after terminating enemy # 1

My first group meeting up with my enemy #3 invasion force to mop things up

- 5 hours and 17 minutes 17 seconds of enjoyment
- 2509 enemy units killed
- 391 enemy structures destroyed

1999 - 2009 10 year old technology and you still can't beat it. From my days in N.E.W.S.T. and Total Warzone I see some familiar old names and its great to see that there are still a few of us around and to all those whose names I don't recognize it's great to see that a 10 year old game can still attract new players.

Welcome back, although i wasn't ever a NEWST person, i did play warzone a lot when it was released on PS1, and Warzone is now thriving here :P
also, thats a hell of a game you seem to have had, perhaps you'll want to talk to the developers about why the latest version doesn't work for you.
you can see them, and more than a few players in #warzone2100 IRC channel on freenode

also, Black Sabbath are a band of the highest caliber :D

Hey, good to hear from you again! With regards to the assertion failure it worth upgrading to 2.1 final. Quite a few bugs were fixed (although I don't recall that one specifically). If you find an easy way to reproduce it, tell us!

Regards, Freddie.

Well its great to see that the game is getting some attention with a nice new splash screen at the start and some nicer looking models dislayed in the splash screen.

I now have the latest version running by first installing the older ver 2.1 rc1 debug version and then overwriting it with the newest version. I got a couple of 4 hour skirmish games in with the new version and it ran totally smooth.

Well, assertion failures are messages that only appear in debug builds, since they're debugging messages, so upgrading to 2.1 final would fix it simply by not being a debug build.

'Course, I think one of the changes right before 2.1 final was to remove a few unnecessary assertions, so it'd probably have been fixed anyway.

Oh, and, hi, Black Sabbath! Remember me? I've made a grand total of like three posts on RTS.net, but it's worth a try.

The best is yet to come. :ninja:

You are the owner of the old warzone home site right? (I can't seem to find the url anymore :( )
I was just wondering, did you archive that material up for future references, or will you let the site expire when the domain name expires?
and it ends here.

Hard to say. I recognize the name but it may just be because I have been spending alot of time on your site checking out the research tree.

If you had of posted a couple of weeks ago the old site was still up and you could have got anything you wanted but now it is down. I only paid for the site (to busy doing real computer programming) so everyone would have a place to meet, someone else did the site admin so there may be a backup somewhere but I don't remember who was doing the admin.

So does anyone have access to the server and/or forum admin accounts? If so, I could host an archive version.

Oh, and:

Apparently I had 27 posts on the newer RTS.net. Significantly more than I remember.

-- Kevin - he's been fixing all the major probs that have arisen on the site over the last several years. He used to frequent
the WRP Freenode IRC channel (as did his logging bot for many years)..

-- Lav_Coyote has also tended the site over the years.
