[Info Request] More Cyborg Options

Post by vodswyld »

Anyone know where I should start if I want to mod in Sensor and Commander Cyborgs?

In your Warzone 2100 folder located in the hard drive that you installed it on, you should see a file called "mp.wz". Open it using a program that opens .zip files (like WinZip or WinRAR), and you'll find these files called "templates.txt" and "assignweapons.txt", located in the "stats" folder. That should be where you'll need to make your necessary changes.

For more information on how to mod these, go here.

Nooooo ! If you touch the mp.wz file your your game will crash in multiplayer and I WILL kill a little kitty !!

@Shadow Wolf : Do not show people how to make the game crash please !

The good procedure is to COPY FIRST the mp.wz in another name. Do the change on the copy, and rezip it in a ".wz" that you will drop in your /data/mods/autoload folder if you want the effect to be constant or in "/data/mods/multiplay" if you want to load it as a mod when you want to.

If you already touched the mp.wz file.
1. Burn your computer
2. Call an exorcist

3. Redownload a fresh copy

Sorry. Forgot to mention that. My bad. :augh:

Iluvalar is right though. When modding, you SHOULD create a back up of the original unedited files, so that you'll still have the original to work with (though ONLY as a base). Otherwise, you might find that your game stops working for some reason. :|

Hehehe, yeah that is all kinda basic modding stuff. I just had no idea where to even start with the source and there were a fair number of files to go digging through down there. Will the mods folder read any ".wz" or is there some kind of specific naming convention?

No need to call an exorcist either. I am one!

I think you over state crashing but anyway if they make changes that crash the game they will soon learn.
Un zipping the MP and Base zip files lets you see most every bit of data you can change learning is best done in skirmish mode refine your changes then make a mod.

It's not harder to make it my way, you can even leave the mod unzipped. And it will never make that corrupted data kick bug in multiplayer. I dont get why you are arguing on that. O_o

I don't see "opinions" here. I just see an improper crashy way to make the same thing with more efforts.

No, just try to avoid common mod name : NTW, 2120, or NRS. Any .wz in the autoload folder will be read automatically. I suggest you only leave the files that you have edited in the mod. This allow others to know what file you changed and allow multiple mod in the said autoload folder when possible.

I'm sorry the documentation for modding is very poor. If you have others question, don't hesitate to ask here. 8)
