What kind of base settings do you like?
I am working on moving implementation of base settings from the C++ code into the scripts, so that it can be modified by mods. In the process, I am considering making some simplification of the hideously complicated middle option ("Start with base") option. It currently removes (pseudo-randomly) all but one factory / power generator / reslab / hq, and all defenses, and then downgrades all buildings with modules.
So I have two questions:
1) Which base setting do you usually play with? Use poll.
2) How do you think the middle base setting ("Start with base") could be simplified? Comment below.

Playing no bases only.
Advanced bases setting is useful for testing/debugging, making beautiful screenshots, and decreasing scores in addons in case it's not present.

I strongly prefer no base because the building sequence can make player start with different advantage depending on their build order.
Full base is for me the "cobra HMG half track" only mod. It would be nice if someone check that so there is not an obvious better model than the others in the research at start.

Are you sure? Cause i think hmg/lightcannon mixes (or even hmg/flamer mixes) can effectively counter that. I understand the point though. Cobra HMG halftracks are certainly a bit too powerful. Much like mg viper halftracks in medium bases games."cobra HMG half track" only

i can say 90% of noobs start with advanced or medium bases.
such options are making games easier for beginners and possibly can help to involve more new players
for me no matter which start bases was selected, but playing on 1 set option is boring
and by my opinion removing options is bad idea and better make more options

If guess you got the point : cobra HMG half track and maybe your pathetic attempt to counter itNoQ wrote:Are you sure? Re: What kind of base settings do you like?
this poll is flawed, since it highly depends on the situation when we are starting a game.
if we want a slow game then no bases. if we want a medium length game then start with bases. if we want a quick game then start with advanced bases.
here is a hint, don't mess with the way the game handles everything, it was almost perfect. just fix your bugs and everyone will be happy.

exactly. "if it aint broke don't fix it" comes to mind.zany wrote:this poll is flawed, since it highly depends on the situation when we are starting a game.

Re: What kind of base settings do you like?
Ok, this always bugs me. It seems that people want the game to increase in tech in a flat stair step format. I think that would be boring as h3ll. It's a GOOD thing to have tanks that are stronger than others. It adds to the strategy. If scourge and needle were both good at the same things, everyone would just research needle because it's easier. Same thing goes with flamers. I think they need to stay the way they are. It's a good thing for there to be real threats like that. It's never hopeless against inferno. You just can't be doing mg or laser or something. Well managed pure cannons can kill inferno pythons and their borgs. Pure hmg cobras are killed with minipod cobras. If there are borgs do a mix between the two. And minipod or cannon kills smg vipers. Period.NoQ wrote:Cobra HMG halftracks are certainly a bit too powerful. Much like mg viper halftracks in medium bases games.

Actually, it is easier to make sure you get a longer game by starting with defenses - no base games can be over quick if rushed.zany wrote:if we want a slow game then no bases. if we want a medium length game then start with bases. if we want a quick game then start with advanced bases..
That premise is clearly false.zany wrote: everyone will be happy.

Re: What kind of base settings do you like?
Too long to invent. A really large map is needed to survive against smg spam with just them in medium bases mode. And minipod or cannon kills smg vipers.
I think we weren't talking about changing the game, but about the coding problem of porting these changes from C++ code into scripts, so that to get more modding (and thus mapping!) freedom.Per wrote:That premise is clearly false.zany wrote: everyone will be happy.

Indeed. This change has now been pushed to master, so feel free to experiment with it.NoQ wrote:I think we weren't talking about changing the game, but about the coding problem of porting these changes from C++ code into scripts, so that to get more modding (and thus mapping!) freedom.

if nothing is going to change then why the poll?Per wrote:Indeed.
