DROIDS in neutral
I have noticed a problem with tanks not being able to get out of the way of eachother.
I can not imagine anything worse than to watch my guys die.
The bottleneck of a group of guys heading to the front, while some are returning for repairs.
This idea has been accepted, could this possibly fix the issue or be expanded on to fix it?
Droids should not block building construction, but move out of the way

Sometimes I experience this problem as well.

Re: DROIDS in neutral
So you are suggesting that retreating units should have a higher importance value when determining who gets out of the way?
This could really be a useful feature, but I'm wondering how hard it would be to implement..

Re: DROIDS in neutral
Im am not sure what the best idea is... but i think that ALL the droids need to do a better job of getting out of eachothers way.
the repair scenario was just an example, as this happens in battle too. in fact a clever general might use this to an advantage
maybe 'returning for repair' units simply find a practical(longest, but still direct)path, not the shortest.
But, the droids all find the shortest route [plotted at execute(i bet)], and will be damned to deviate an inch to get there[its almost as if the droids dont consider themselves 'objects'], maybe the code needs to invole a regular updater of sorts, meaning, that the units check for the shortest route 'x' times a second.
surely this is feasible, however i am not a programmer and assume it is a difficult task.
I thought, if the wz-team is writing code to tell the droids to get out of the way for the constuction units/buildings, this could be implemented as a general rule for all droids.

well, i dont believe our AI is any thing even remotely like that in the article. heck, no one has even gotten even close to that type of an AI. would be nice, but not going to happen, unless someone devotes their 100 percent time to it. go ahead. do it. we will wait.cj11701 wrote:https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... telligence

Re: DROIDS in neutral
the article is an inspirational post to the ai designer(s)...a way for me to say I know its hard [im not just flamin you guys]
I did think, maybe the programmer(s) would read that and be like...o yeah, ok, so i can do it like this though, or i bet there is some free code out there i can implement or go through for ideas, IDK.
I saw some guy on TV, he worked for volvo i think. he studied locust swarms to make accident avoidance programs. The point is, they arent far off, these things are in use today.
I think I nailed it in my earlier post about some ideas that might help.
I know its just a game and its a hobby for a group of people, with kids and jobs and cocktail parties, OH MY.
I AM TRYING TO HELP< BUT IM A LOWLY HUMAN>

okeedokee - there is a lot you can do. it is not an easy subject. so i will not tell you it is. if you like there are lots of resources available. just remember that our engine isnt what you would call ... advanced. ie: is from 1999 or thereabouts with some tweaks here and there. welcome. have fun.cj11701 wrote:the article is an inspirational post to the ai designer(s)...a way for me to say I know its hard [im not just flamin you guys]

Re: DROIDS in neutral
that is annoying if you have a direct fire veteran on the front line and he is blocked by the other units when retreating and dies because of that
it's not that hard to program it i suppose:hmm:.

We could consider programming our version of Supreme Commander 2's "flowfield pathfinding".
