differences between versions

Post by medusa »

I could not find a list on what is different about 2.3.8 and the trunk snapshots so I thought I would make one.
the main differences that you notice is the improved graphics in the trunk snapshot.
2.3.8 has a lot less bugs than the trunk snapshot.
trunk snapshot has supposedly better networking code.
trunk snapshot has new units.

if the wz|developers were smart they could take the good things out of the bug ridden trunk snapshot and put it in the 2.3.8 game.
it can't be that hard to move the improved graphics and the better networking and the new units over to 2.3.8 can it?

For some value of "improved". The new terrain renderer allows larger textures, but less map/tile details (e.g. one tile wide paths are visible in 2.3, but not master). And it does strange things to the map data (shifts it half a tile diagonally). It's the part I would backport last (if at all). Unit rendering on the other hand should be ok.

Well, the renderer was backported into the old 3.0 branch, but its failings were among the reasons to cancel that. Also, there isn't that much interest in 2.3 anymore among those who do coding work, so it is also a question of motivation, not only difficulty.

can we do a petition to get those who do coding work to redo the old 3.0 branch?
if the work was already done what failed?

petition away!!! wont help... not enough coders to do the work... unless of course your a coder and willing to do at least some of it... then go ahead... if not... well then not much sense in having a pertition if there is no one that is going to do what you want them to do , now, is there? :hmm:

cybersphinx seems to be tolerant of the idea and since you signed it that means you are as well.
that means we are almost there!
that leaves per, dak180, safety0ff, stiv and zarel.

almost there to what??? i can see your going to end up doing all this work ... why not just learn to code and donate your time... be alot faster... :) just saying... not being confrontational... :)
