Re: New Texture
I have actually yet to see the new textures, cos the latest beta version of the game simply will not run a game whatsoever. It won't do campaign, skirmish or challenges, much to my annoyance
Then again, it's a Beta, what dya expect
Overkill- So rarely needed, so often fun.

Re: New Texture
As we all know, Beta is the Latin word meaning "does not work yet". The release has bugs, many which have been already fixed thanks to your testing and reports. Hurray! Then again, it's a Beta, what dya expect
However, if the game is not running at all, the most likely cause is the amazing graphics have melted your cheap on-board video chipset. A little more information about your system could help us chase down this problem.

Re: New Texture
It would serve you well to report the problem (or at least ask in the Help/Troubleshooting section for a solution to get it working). Because if you don't get the problem fixed in the beta releases, then the same problem will eventually end up in the final 3.0 release. Hence the importance of *Beta* releases. (But it's more likely that it's an something external to Warzone2100 that is not letting you have the game started. I had to update my Intel drivers to get a 3.0Beta1 game running without a crash)Outlaw325 wrote:I have actually yet to see the new textures, cos the latest beta version of the game simply will not run a game whatsoever. The Beta did it's part, now it's your turn to do yours.Outlaw325 wrote:Then again, it's a Beta, what dya expect

This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

Re: New Texture
It's not the graphics, I put them to the usual 512 size I use, and it STILL didn't run.stiv wrote:As we all know, Beta is the Latin word meaning "does not work yet". This lagtop will run CoD 4 quite happily, so it most certainly shouldn't be a problem for Warzone

I am very happy with the new flashy textures but they do make my computer run a lil slow

Re: New Texture
As far as i've noticed, they may be harder for a video card, but not for CPU. With good enough video card (which doesn't need to be brand-new at all, just good "enough"), 3.0 won't be much more consuming (: But, of course, with a weak-enough video card, CPU will do the hard work for it (: (i might be wrong, as usual)

Re: New Texture
one thing I found cool is also the texture of the water!
I was trying to modify this texture in Paint.NET, and I saw that the layout of pixels of the texture was different, new, in a way that made me think how much work to make this texture!

.
Actual etymology for the word beta:
You can do amazing things with the Water Texture (even with the current anim) if you are willing to work on a pixel level borrowing from a painting technique called Pointillism developed by the painter Georges Seurat. I did one years ago for a map called "Acid Lake" which invoked a "spume-spray" effect in the wave crests and I did it using this very technique.

Actual etymology for the word beta:
And, more fully:beta : second letter of the Gk. alphabet, c.1300, from Gk., from Hebrew/Phoenician beth (see alphabet); used to designate the second of many things.
But back to the textures...beta (plural betas)
The name of the second letter of the Greek alphabet (Β, β), preceded by alpha (Α, α) and followed by gamma, (Γ, γ). In modern Greek it represents the voiced labiodental fricative sound of v found in the English words have and vase.
Used in marking scheme: α, β, γ or α+, α, α-, β etc.
