Warzone will never have DRM of that sort. That is the opinion of not only me, but every staff member on the Project, and most forum members as well (confer WarTux above). Sure, I might not see to it personally, but I can guarantee you that you will not get your DRM.

Here are some reasons why Warzone (and any other GPL project) will NOT have any DRM protection of any kind.Boris wrote:zarel, why I am not surprised at all with your answer. but lol (never) how to know? 1.not depend on you. 2.You will not live forever.

- The principle. DRM is designed to inhibit the freedom to redistribute and modify. This violates the GPL and goes against every aspect of "free software."
- Incompatibility. DRM technology often does not work on Linux, let alone BSD and other lesser-known OS's.
- Long-term potential. Imagine if Bob creates a map for Warzone 2.3.1. He DRM's it because he does not want anyone to modify his map. A couple years later, the Warzone team releases a new version. It includes exciting new features that Bill really wants to implement into Bob's map. But he cannot do this because the map is DRM-protected and Bob is inactive.

wartux,I have not even mentioned the DRM. As you can see. It seems to not know what I am talking about.

Maybe DRM wasn't specified, but the reasons above still apply to "password protection of maps."Boris wrote:wartux,I have not even mentioned the DRM. As you can see. It seems to not know what I am talking about.

The password can be added in many ways. Even outside the mod and map document.

Boris, I understand how you want to help, but WarTux and Zarel are right, this seems like DRM. Warcraft is not an open source project, that is why they are able to do things like that. But more importantly the author's password-protected creations would not conform with any of the licenses mentioned by the project staff.Boris wrote:You need to programs such as flame and edit world can create a password when creating a map so that no one else can open ( only the Warzone game ). In this way the author have Protection .If you used worldedit for warcraft then you know exactly What I am talking.
Maybe you can suggest a better way to encourage more gamers to play more maps/mods and provide useful feedback that the creators can use?

Then perhaps you should speak in a language you are more familiar with. It's often easier for us to translate from other languages than to interpret your efforts at English.Boris wrote:As you can see. It seems to not know what I am talking about.

The main reason why Warzone will NEVER EVER have any kind of protection:

- It will be useless.

Good point, and there shouldn't be any protection in the first place, crackable or not.KukY wrote:Remember, this is an open-source project, so anyone with advanced programming skills can look at the source and crack the protection.

Re: WZ|Map/Mod Tester : New Contributor Role for Members
im contra passwording maps...
boris why do you want it? do people "steal" your work? i messaged you about the otok fix and you granted me the permission, thats why i released it, if you didnt, i wouldnt
as for wc3: you know there are password removal tools out there who delete the protection? no protection is 100% safe and the devs should focus on real problems in my opinion
\edit: this is offtopic anyways, maybe a mod should split it?!

Re: WZ|Map/Mod Tester : New Contributor Role for Members
Exactly why do we even need password protection for maps? It just seems like a waste of development resources to me. After all, if somebody did "steal" a map, I'm sure the original author will come forward and have the copycat taken down or somebody else will recognize the map and do likewise.
