Stealth/Cloaking for Units

Post by JDW »

This feature request is for basic invisibility mode for units/cyborgs or maybe only a special sort of unit. All futher discussion can happen on this thread.

Inspiration for this idea was from MetalWarrior95
Cloak is posible, only on humans i think!

So, I guess, invisibility is not a good option for gameplay

Thx Joshua!
I read that topic and in one way its true, BUT even if thats so right i dont think that hackers knows C plus scripting and coding...
And if there were hacker then we should make a database of players with passwords. If player gets banned he cant be logged in his account, cant created new one because we will make a special file that will save all profiles. It will be hard but efficent. Also there will be put a secret unknown file that will be called like something important in the game and maybe in the games exe it self!
Iam now fast typed and thinked but i think its a good idea do to what i reccomended!

hmm... maybe just have it as a 'toggle' ability? turn on and off, while on, the unit cannot attack.

and it is slower then other units? -like plasma cannon slow :\-

Radar jammers, that would be a nice implementation for more electronic warfare.

To clarify, the biggest problem is that the game was not balanced for cloaking.

Cloaking is huge. It can't work unless a game is designed from the ground up to allow cloaking and detection, and Warzone wasn't. You need a whole variety of cloaking and detection mechanisms, and you have to make sure detection is strong enough that cloaking isn't overpowered, and that cloaking is strong enough that it isn't useless. It's possible, but it would make Warzone an unrecognizable game.

The other thing is that cloaking is not necessarily a good thing. At least in my opinion, it adds far more frustration than anything else, and it's not very realistic at all. Oh, you're being shot at, but you can't fire back! Cloaking that doesn't work while you're firing, on the other hand, is less frustrating, but still overpowering with things such as long-reload weapons, and so doesn't fit into Warzone's design model.

Slowing down cloaked units too much will also cause nothing but frustration. When we add features, the purpose is to make the game more fun, and adding frustration goes against that goal.

One thing that could be possible balance-wise would be something like RA3's Mirage Tanks, that are invisible only when not firing and not moving.

That, and, technical restrictions I mentioned in the linked post pretty much make any implementation of cloaking impossible in the game's present state.

Thanks Zarel, for taking the trouble to clarify this once-and-for-all before this thread got too carried away :)

If you're talking about energy shields for cloaking, then it's pointless taking the discussion further, as Zarel already pointed out that the game isn't balanced for cloaking..

But if you're talking about energy fields for a new concept, then please start a new thread and elaborate more for us...

Also, sensors jammers are in the pipeline, these give some level of stealth.. And i think it's better than cloaking..

mm.. touche, but maybe its like a propulsion or body or something? camouflage body that is seen as close to the terrain by an enemy, but to you and allies its seen as team color?

I seriously just laughed so hard at that.

In my honest opinion, cloaking isn't even really that great. I personally wouldn't want to see it implemented.
