A very old feature request...
Hi there, long time player (used to play the original game on a P166mmx and 3dfx) and old user of the Pumpkin forums.
I quite like what has been done with WZ2100 so far, it's quite impressive considering we're talking about a 1999 game.
Back then the discussion was about making the cyborg infantry more useful without it being overpowered.
Among the various solutions proposed there was the possibility of having them walk on terrain inaccessible by normal vehicles and an upgrade that would give them jumpgets to get on top of cliffs...
Has it ever been considered?

in the original - i believe it was patch 1.11 or something similar. jumpjets were added... and were bugged by one problem... they would sometimes get stuck on unpassable terrain or in the water... ( if they were there the only way to release em was by friendly fire
).... from what i have seen/heard - not many liked them. various reasons.

It was, and was added for a short period, but everyone disliked it, so it was removed before 1.10, iirc. It was added again in 1.11, but removed for the same reasons.
I'm planning on adding jumping engineers and maybe mechanics, using less annoying jump trajectories, so we'll see what happens after that.

But you can have Jump Cyborgs now; but you need a mod.
I think I made one...

That would be great!Zarel wrote:It was, and was added for a short period, but everyone disliked it, so it was removed before 1.10, iirc. It was added again in 1.11, but removed for the same reasons.

At the time it was inspired by MechCommander, yet I'm sure others would appreciate it for placing sensors ordefensive emplacements...
On a side note, looks like 1999 games are the ones receiving the most loyal fanbase... Descent: Freespace 2, Jagged Alliance 2 and WZ 2100 are perhaps the most shining examples...

I'm pretty sure 1.11 had it, and it was removed in 1.12 beta.

be great to have this feature in the utility cyborgs! i always wondered how in the campaign structures got into inaccessible areas, the new paradigm was hiding some tech from us methinks

Actually, cyborg transports are good enough for that purpose.

Re: A very old feature request...
not really, i made a post the other day that the cyborgs rarely if ever manage to dismount while on a thin wall, or in one map in particular a bluff in the middle of a lake, the cyborgs would spawn in the valley of the cliff or on shore of the lake
