...seriously, Hyper Velocity Cannon replaces both Light and Medium Cannon.

Re: New Weapons!
Hyper velocity cannon has weight 5000 and slows down light vehicles by roundabout 50%. I still wish for a 40 mm automatic weapon with weight below 1500 (even though it has less punch than HPV) to suit light bodies.

Well, there's good reason light bodies are near useless by the time you get Scorpion.

As this is still a case of hit & run, anti-tank rockets continue to be the premier weapon, but force multiplication must be greater than for attrition.Corporal Punishment wrote:... a third type of special assault tactic for which a stronger version of the light cannon might come in handy: The surprise coup. ...

Re: New Weapons!
Not really. The goal is not to inflict damage and be gone before the enemy can react and repeat until the target is destroyed. It's about destroying a target in one attack and be gone before backup arrives, this can mean engagement for quite some time, even several hours in real life. A high ROF weapon might be a better choice in the game. Plus, it's simply unaesthetic to have a cannon suitable for light vehicles in T1 and T3 (Light cannon and needle gun) but none in T2.

Anti-tank rockets include the minipod rocket launcher.Corporal Punishment wrote:... A high ROF weapon might be a better choice in the game.
Unfortunately it does not have the same survivability of a cannon turret, but that's called an engineering trade-off.
Heavy cannon doesn't have an successor until the Gauss/Plasma cannon, thus it remains useful from T1 and well into T3 due to upgrades.Corporal Punishment wrote:... it's simply unaesthetic to have a cannon suitable for light vehicles in T1 and T3 (Light cannon and needle gun) but none in T2. ...
Light cannon benefits from every single upgrade to Heavy cannon; it is reasonable to assume the Light cannon remains proportional useful through it's operational lifespan.

Re: New Weapons!
Actually, HC is a T2 weapon. Its T1 equivalent is Medium Cannon.
An example of a weapon with a T1 and T3 version but no T2 version is the MRA/SMA.

@ TVR: All the fuzz is about having an improved ALL ROUNDER WEAPON to mount on light vehicles. Mini-pod missile just does poorly against most targets. And Mini-pod has so weak armor it just isn't a fair trade-off for a main weapon. I'm not proposing light vehicles that can take it up on MBTs, but they should be able to take at least some fire from one and be able to get away with it. This does require the armor of a cannon turret.

Re: New Weapons!
Making a bridge from the early topic to here, I can only like the sniper turret. As Kacen pointed out (with his own manners
), some of the mentioned weapons would be only tweaked versions of the current weapons. The other ones are too silly, I think
In my own thoughts, the "sniper gun turret" would act as a long range, low ROF, AP weapon, for mid T1. Lasers work out really well as long-range AP, but they're T3, you have to research quite a lot to get 'em. The purpose of such a weapon would be to soften cyborg groups while mantaining a safe distance. The sniper gun could have similar hitpoints to a HMG, I think.
don't get "long range" as "extreme range", I mean something like a lancer's range.

Olrox

Needle gun, obsoletes Light cannon in T3.Corporal Punishment wrote:... having an improved ALL ROUNDER WEAPON to mount on light vehicles ...
Rocket launchers with the anti-tank damage type are perfect for hit-and-run against tanks, and there is really no reason to hit-and-run against a static structure, which happens to be the reason SRMA is a poor anti-structure weapon concept.Corporal Punishment wrote:... It's useful if we have projectile dodging (we do), as well as if the opponent has a standing army behind said structures (and if they're not stupid, they do), and it's useful against cyborgs, too.TVR wrote:Rocket launchers with the anti-tank damage type are perfect for hit-and-run against tanks, and there is really no reason to hit-and-run against a static structure, which happens to be the reason SRMA is a poor anti-structure weapon concept.
I find many people mounting MRL on hover rather than tracks, so it seems at least some people are finding the hit-and-run aspect useful.

Re: New Weapons!
True, in case of static targets surprise coup is the premier choice. This requires light units (for their superior speed over the the other classes) and all-rounder weapons (for versatility) with good armor because they will be in the area for some time and eventually have to pull back from enemy reinforcements.TVR wrote: Needle gun, obsoletes Light cannon in T3.

And what's it gonna be in T2? Light cannon just doesn't have the punch for advanced armor or structure materials.TVR wrote: ...and there is really no reason to hit-and-run against a static structure...

In Warzone 2100, Power to Weight ratio remains constant throughout all the designations of a chassis series.Corporal Punishment wrote:... This requires light units (for their superior speed over the the other classes) ...
Therefore, light chassis is no faster than a heavy chassis.

Three fundamental issues:Zarel wrote:... it's useful against cyborgs, too ...
1)Cyborgs move at 400.
->Impossible to retreat from.
2)Cyborgs are very inexpensive, thus they are not worth sniping.
->Epitome of human wave attack.
3)SRMA is short-range indirect-fire, and Cyborgs are very small targets.
->Extremely difficult to land a hit, given high arc at short-range.
As SRMA is artillery damage type, this leaves static structures, which BB is a hard counter to at short-ranges, while Howitzers are their counter at long-range.
