oh btw =p
this isnt uncommon and my shrink is afraid to come see me for fear of radiation bleed from all my computers, i build them for fun.

I have 2 words for you, but I cannot say them here. One begins with F and the other one begins with Y, if you are curious.GiGaBaNE wrote:i have 1 word for you.....BOINC. check it out!Olrox wrote:The main point is that the number of researchers for each "project" is limited, even if they are computers. If you want a computer to be faster, you can't use your neighbor's PC to improve speed - even if you programmed each component to transmit the information to your motherboard by internet, you would have transmission issues.
just an example of todays research tech.
this isnt the tech i was looking for as i cant remember what its called (it was like 4 poles and you drop special motherboards onto it and they join together to make 1 super board (far more advanced than rackmount)) but check this out.
The TRACC parallel computing system, shown here, provided researchers the visualization capabilities necessary for their experiments. The TRACC computational cluster consists of a 512-core, customized LS-1 system from Linux Networx.

Also, thanks for the info, Sherlock.
TVR would LOVE this post, but I'm outta here before...
bye.

LOL your welcome =D
its pure luck that im a seti geek and a warzone player, seti, genome at home and various other research projects are what keep me from needing central heating during the winter with all that heat =D

Let's assume infrastructure for internet connection has been completely vapourized during The Collapse.
This leaves electromagnetic spectrum broadcast and satellite relay, let's also assume ambient radiation leads to poor signal quality for omni-directional receivers...
Quantum entanglement? Maybe.

Re: team researching question
well the research labs are all in a single theatre of operation, so the internet isnt really needed anyway. fibre optics, p2p laser burst and tight beam microwave transmission are just a few examples of propagation tech that could be used post-collapse.
and since my main fantasy item would be a double research complex, fibreoptic would probably be my first choice since internal networking would be all that is required =D
Quantum entanglement would be an outlawed science if i was king for a day...imagine if nexus got hold of that!

Re: team researching question
My appologies, i thought things had been made quite clear to you, we were just moving on to a slightly related topic.
fyi i tested it myself and it behaves 'exactly as it says on the label'
did you know that even if you put the game in alliance mode, but then make 2 or more teams the same e.g 2x team A, that automatically makes it locked teams.

im afraid i have to agree.Zarel wrote:I think you were accidentally in Locked Teams mode.

I do know that, and we were on different teams... 4 buddies, each one of us in a different team at selection screen, but then we have alied, its like it was in locked teams for researches....GiGaBaNE wrote:did you know that even if you put the game in alliance mode, but then make 2 or more teams the same e.g 2x team A, that automatically makes it locked teams.

Re: team researching question
I infer the Neural Synapse Research Cores perform more than trial-and-error in order to determine 'how' a certain technology functions, but also 'why' in order to advance in that particular area.
Theorizing is not a task possible to parallelize, therefore each Research Core is assigned to a single subject while Research Modules provide extended cooling support.

You know, I think there needs to be a better research interface. Similar to the way StarCraft II does it - so you can open the Research screen, and then click three topics, and those will be assigned to whatever empty facilities you have, with additional topics queued.

using a computer to invent stuff, and linking several computers into a computational cluster are not mutually exclusive imho.
computers can invent items, and computer clusters can invent items faster. its a bit of a no brainer really.

Computers can't invent everything. It stands to reason that the research topics available to the player aren't completely computerizable...GiGaBaNE wrote:http://www.automatinginvention.com/about.html

I wonder how networked PCs could possibly have survived NEXUS intruder program.
I beg of you to attend to winsrp's will and stop talknig about all of those theories, let's create a nother general discussion topic if he doesn't want his subject to be ignored. If he allows it, okay, but he's already asked once!

Re: team researching question
winsrp is right, and that is how it has always been, and it is not a bug.Zarel wrote:In Locked Teams mode, research is automatically shared.winsrp wrote:now that I see this topic, Research are not working as they should in Alianses mode.... Everything that my ally is researching is automatically given to me without sharing them...
So its either its not working or I don't understand how they should work.
In Alliances mode, research is only shared when you click "Leak Technology".
I think you were accidentally in Locked Teams mode.
The "leak technology" button is there for two situations:
- Leak Technology that the player had before the alliance was active
- Leak Technology to the second party that the player has received from a third party, with whom the second party has no alliance.
