Could a tutorial revamp be needed?

Ideas and suggestions for how to improve the Warzone 2100 base game only. Ideas for mods go in Mapping/Modding instead. Read sticky posts first!

I was watching a video on YT of a guy who's never played WZ2100 doing a review and the idea I got is that the tutorial might need to be revamped as it doesn't give a deep enough insight of the ingame functions (such as group selection, group assigning, map scrolling).
Not everybody actually played RTS games or is good at them, so the first approach to a newcomer must be a friendly one.
Sadly, I haven't even started looking at Warzone's coding and scenario scripting, but perhaps for some of the people on the forums it might be easy enough to implement a new tutorial or even a series of tutorials.

No, I'm talking about a tutorial comprehensive of all the basic features, such as select-by-dragging, order panels and stuff such as that.
The stock tutorial barely covers the basics of the basics.

Maybe someone could make a Youtube video explaining how to play the game? :-)

(I'm not joking. If it is good enough, maybe we could even link to it from inside the game. Extending the existing tutorial is quite hard and quite far down the priority list, I'm afraid.)

Extending the existing tutorial is quite hard and quite far down the priority list, I'm afraid.
We are rewriting everything in javascript, aren't we? There's no problem improving the tutorial a bit in the process. If i happen to help around, it'd probably start with improving the tutorial as my campaign scripting tutorial :roll:

The main problem rewriting in js is that a tutorial needs a lot of special functionality that needs to be implemented alongside the port.

People making a new campaign should perhaps look into voice synthesis. Might have to adapt the story to explain why it sounds like an AI, though... :-) We could possibly support this in the engine itself... much better than recording and having to download tons of voice files.

Just get some helium balloons and use them for extra effects ;) Warzone 2100 Chipmunk edition! :D

We don't actually need voice, be it real or synthetic, you can do it with text popup balloons--though, those have yet to be implemented.
