Apple finally wakes up and updates openGL

Post by vexed »

Apple has finally updated the OpenGL support in its new version of OS X. OS X 10.9 codenamed Mavericks will be available with… OpenGL 4.1 core profile!

WZ with tessellation support ? :hmm:
/facepalm ...Grinch stole Warzone🙈🙉🙊 contra principia negantem non est disputandum

Not as funny as WZ with fur shaders.

Oh, gosh. I can just imagine tanks rolling by covered in straight brown fur so thick you can't even see the tank anymore. :lol2:

This has to happen now.

Do you mean that before this update we couldn't introduce tessellation to wz? Oh well..

Nope.
This would be hardware accelerated.

Will Warzone "ever" support hardware acceleration?

which kind of 'hardware acceleration' ? something that need QT5 or SDL 2 ?

@AWarZoner: Warzone has always had hardware acceleration, it's just a question of what features it uses. In fact, there are almost no 3d games out there which wouldn't be hardware accelerated to some degree. Warzone did, however, have a purely software renderer as an alternative but it was dropped for obvious reasons.

Any game that runs on OpenGL or DirectX pretty much has hardware acceleration. What is really the issue is the feature set that warzone may or may not ever use. SSAO, Normal Maps, Cubemaps, Tessellation, high end particle effects, etc.

Since WZ is an RTS some of what is used in say Halo or other FPS games may never be needed. Shaders (which WZ makes use of) are, for the most part, done directly on the hardware. If you look at the latest DirectX and OpenGL (i think both) the render pipeline is handled mostly by shaders now instead of a fixed function pipe (DirectX moreso than OpenGL).

You may want to look up the history of hardware acceleration to learn a little more about games have evolved over the years, you might be surprised at what you learn :lecture:

I meant that we also have some other platforms(win, linux) that support the OGL's tessellation. :|

SSAO is terrible, both in concept and in practice. Don't even get me started. :annoyed:

.

I wonder why over 80 AAA games have made use of SSAO since it was created for Crysis (2007)clear through 2013 releases. :hmm:
