The amount is already higher then I thought it would be.
With this amount of voters that could easily be a statistical anomaly though.

Not likely.

The data should be normally distributed; that is, approximately normal.

It is though, as you say, an approximation of the normal distribution. It is not the normal distribution itself.

And what I meant when saying it could be a statistical anomaly is that with around 50 voters each voter is worth 2%, which is quite a lot if you'd ask me. So if a higher percentage of those having Vista than those having another OS take a vote then the value shown here may be higher than the real value across the entire Warzone playing population.

I'm especially thinking here that the amount of GNU/Linux users voting here is much lower (relative to the "real/full" population) than the amount of Windows users (be it XP or Vista...). Although I'm probably repeating myself now (from earlier on in this topic).

Anyway, my point is, we cannot rely on this poll to draw any significant conclusions for which OS Warzone is most played on. Only way to be sure would be adding some kind of statistics tracker to Warzone, which IMO would be an invasion in people's privacy.

Let me quote some unknown (to me) author about that "You've got three kind of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."

Yup....
* One of my favorite's for years, that quote.

* First I thought it was Mark Twain then Benjamin Disrali.... finally I realized that NO one has been able to pin-it-down with absolute certainty.

* A really interesting history of the attempt to attribute can be found HERE

* I not so sure this tangent is off-topic as the assumptions of any authoritative device should be layed bare, IMHO.

How can you say that?  We already have usage data on Microsoft OS's vs. Linux OS's and we have a pretty good idea on what percentage of each is used in the marketplace.

I think the graph you have here reflects perfectly what is already widely known and denying it or dancing around it is not a good idea.

Not everyone playing WZ visits the forums. Not everyone who visits the forums is registered. Not everyone who is registered voted here.
You get better results when you do like Valve and generate your data right from the client.

Though I don't deny that these votes give a result I would expect.
But still it could be completely wrong (far from the truth). That's normal for statistics and something you have to know to correctly analyse them.

Discussion ended.

Actually the results we have here are surprising at best. In the desktop market place Linux and OS X probably have 10% between them, with Windows having the remaining 90%. Here Windows only has 70% which is 20% lower.

If we assume these results are an accurate break-down of the Warzone demographic then it seems reasonable to conclude that the fact we run on alternative OS's is a pulling force that draws people to Warzone. Otherwise we would only expect it to be around 10% alternative OS's.

Regards, Freddie.

"Correlation doesn't imply causation!!!"

Take for example this graph which shows the relation between global warming and the amount of pirates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:FSM_Pirates.png

Interesting chart. The estimated number of pirates goes 3500-4500-2000... Does that count as correlation?

it was just to see how many people (that responded ) used what operating system.... it wasnt to start any them angainst us or whatever type discussions.... just a rough estimate of users systems... and we have now have enuff... so as entrusted to me - declare the poll completed.
‎"to prepare for disaster is to invite it, to not prepare for disaster is a fools choice" -me (kim-lav_coyote25-metcalfe) - it used to be attributed to unknown - but adding the last bit , it now makes sense.
