That's a common misunderstanding.
What "Peak Oil" actually means is the period when the production of oil achieves its maximum rate before begining its inevitable decline. Period.
The real story is in the ramifications on the "decline" side. Thousands of individual oil fields are already there.
Josh Fox's 2010 documentary Gasland presents a more complete and tragic telling of the consequences of Fracking.
