How far we've come... (A bit of Nostaglia)

Post by NucNut »

I stopped being part of the WZ community back in late 2004, i have returned and i'm impressed with what i see :D

I remember the old days, WZ Starter, WZCK, AiBoost, Aivolution, we had good mods back then...

Only problem now is WZ 2100 won't work on Vista.

How do you get multiple turret vehicles working? I remember posting about this all those years ago and i've been dying to try this out, yet i can't figure out which nightly to download!

What ever happened to Warzone Starter? The Warzone Customiser Kit? These were two indispensible parts of the WZ experience. Ease of use and quick effective modding. i'm sad to say i havn't seen their equal.

Keep up the good work. Gotta go now, the TEE is coming up.
Cheers,

For the multiple turrets - just get the latest one. Remember, it's only heavy bodies, and it won't automatically switch to the panel for the second weapon selection, you have to do that yourself.

I refuse to go anywhere near Vista, so I can't help you there :P

Aivolution comes with the latest nightly builds as a mod again, so you the project is slowly getting there...I think (quite rightly) the emphasis is on improving the core code for now, since that will make everything else easier later, rather than on extras. Though of course, ntohing's stopping you from contributing something yourself if you want it :P

Cool, i'm just annoyesd that WZStarter doesn't exist anymore, we really need a program to run the new WZ in the same way.

It could probably be easy if the program is just a front-end for the command line options, similar to the DosBox / D-Fend pairing you see on the internet. It uses the command line for all of it's configuration - D-Fend probably just has 'push-this-button and --cheat is added to the end of the command line'

If i'm not mistaken, Troman created the WZ Starter...

Also, Warzone is a bit chuggy on my XP laptop, even with the shadows turned off, Any ideas?

Finally, how are the mods made now? Are all the techs and items still controlled by notepad items? Because once again, a simple program that can create new text files with button dependant text inside them.

What i want in warzone:
Warzone starter type program with graphics options to choose before program start:

Choose resolution, choose output type (3DFX, software, hardware accelerated, etc.), a music/playlist selector (can't get the music going...), check boxes for options (Shadows on/off, fog of war type, etc.) and a mod selector (activate/deactiviate). Get this done and i'll be ecstatic

Also, i have the original WZ2100 music files in .mp3 format, does anybody need them?

WZStarter is not being worked on anymore, since it only runs on windows and Warzone supports Linux and Mac now.

Instead of writing a crossplatform WZStarter I would rather implement most of the features directly into Warzone (especially MOD/AI management).

As for the other question take a look at our wiki: http://wiki.wz2100.net/

Not sure you can do anything to speed up the game on the laptop, it does run a bit slower now due to changes that were necessary to support multiple platforms. Tried running it with a lower resolution?

Um, specifically, what changes are making it slow?
The best thing to do when your philosophies don't stand up to debate is to lock the thread and claim victory.

Yep, tried it in window mode and it worked alright with the shadows off, but it was still a bit slow. What sux is the fact it runs sweet as a dream on my school's computers, which are actually INFERIOR to my main computer - but - The main computer has Vista on it... We've got to get WZ working on vista, becuase microsoft is constantly ramming it down everyone's throats, and XP won't be around forever.

That's not easy to tell. Since WZ was ported to Linux it was necessary to rip out some code, like D3D etc. And since WZ spends most of the time on rendering tasks (there were several profilings done on the ml) I assume it is the rendering code.

It's running perfectly fine on my computer with Vista on it.
There are also no slowdowns.

Maybe you don't have the latest drivers for your laptop.
