NRS+ Challenge(s)

Post by Iluvalar »

How to install :
Extract the zip. You'll find 2 files. The .wz file is a map it goes in the "maps" folders. The other file is the challenge description. It must go in another folder called "challenges" that is just beside "maps" if it's not there create it.

What is the challenge:
The challenge pit you in an 8p FFA against NRS+V52 AI known as the "nightmare" difficulty. In the excellent map impactV2.

The mod is packed in a special mode of "30 minutes" instead of "20 minutes" as usual. Which will fit more for skirmish game.

I need to warn you i won the game in 2 hours but near the end the last ai attacked my base killing half my factories and research lab and leaving me with only 11 borgs as only army. I needed another 15 minute of siege to defeat it and when I finaly killed it, there was a lassat fully built lassat in the back of his base. I was about to being shot by lassat XD.

Rules :
Do not attack the ai from the outside of the map (using transport).
Do not hide is some corner. I know how the ai is bad at tracking the last survivors. If you dont have any reasonnable base anywhere you lost. (from my point of view at least).

If you win that challenge, please tell us the main lines you used. I won with cannon (main) cyborgs (adapt) last time.

Tips (for noobs)
-Avoid long research at start.
-Built one bank but only one.
-Check your opponents design and try to adapt.

Tips (for knowledgeable NRS players)
-The 1p packs require to fill more labs (4-5).
-The interest (1p and 30m) is really lower than usual.

Playing it now...

I'll let you know how it goes.
Word of warning, I'm not that great at WZ, so don't be surprised if I fail...

I totally suck at this game... :lol2:

After five attempts I thought I was starting to get the hang of it and I was... I survived three times as long as my last attempt, to the grand total of 34:30.

First few tries I did cannon rush which totally failed, next two I tried mg rush and oil rush and met with a lot more success.

End result: still failed. :annoyed:

Btw, nice mod (and map).

Hint: why don't you pack the challenge .ini file inside the map? (:

Because from my point of vue, the 2.3.8 map mod fix was supposed to avoid any map files reading like this one before the map is launched. Therefore there was no reason why the challenge would be read before the map launch.

I was wrong XD

I believe that's the spirit of a challenge. If it was easy it would not be challenging. Doesn't it ? XD

Of course it is. That's why I still haven't given up playing WZ yet. :lol2:

I'm currently giving it another go, I'm going to try an oil wars approach and wait till I have a large enough power advantage over the ai before a large assault.

I don't give up easily...
Which can be a good and a bad thing. :?

Same here :3
I won with cannon (main) cyborgs (adapt) last time.

I know i might kill a bit of the challenge between players. by producing challenges that fast. But on the other end, I'll please the skirmish player with constant latest version.

This is the challenge #2. In suspicion.. a whole new map i made in the last few days. have fun !

I'd love to play some challenges with just one enemy force around, so that the result wasn't that much random, and my hopefully-improving skills could be measured by the amount of time spend on beating the enemy.

3 minutes ? You know that the ai is not the fastest around on his opening... :D

With enough enemies or big enough map size, you wouldn't be able to rush everyone (?)

Also, AI should be modified to make better openings, something similar to my so-far-master-only experiments  After i have a look at porting my AI to 2.3, i'll have a look at working on NRS AI (you seem to cope pretty well though, i see a nice bunch of personalities).
