i believe your thinking of sim city or train tycoon.... right? trains / tracks will have become obsolete in the future. at least that is what i have been reading.

Re: Trains
About trains being obsolete: I think they are pretty much irreplaceable when it comes to efficient transport over land. The only possible evolution I can see is partial replacement of conventional rails with maglev tracks (which also fall into the train category).
About trains in warzone: what purpose are they supposed to serve? I doubt the project would be maintaining any train lines, since in warzone maintaining them means defending them. A train is extremely easy to ambush since you know exacly where it will go.
As for trains being part of the scenery, it's just a matter of making the necessary tilesets and features, as well as actually making a map containing them. Being an artist myself I must say though, that such a thing takes quite a lot of work.

Re: Trains
well, since trains can haul a lot, i would use them as a line of defense with multiple guns on it. also, when you stumble upon the rail artifact if there was one, and then research the autorail if there was such, you can just use the train as a war machine, capable of destroying anything in its path and defending anything. BUT here is the con: takes a LOT of power just to build a train with 5-9 turrets.

Re: Trains
Even if you use maglev adding a train into WZ doesn't really give any value. A train really needs somewhere to go. If you added resupply for vehicles or tripled the size of the maps it might work.. but for the most part it would make for an unused feature as there would be no cost/benefit ratio.. Trains would work better in a wargame or sim, maybe even a different style resource RTS (Dune 2 spice harvest, C&C tiberuim harvest..) but not WZ or even the TA/SupCom model resource gathering.

Re: Trains
maybe make it to where oil has to be transported to the power generator if the well is not within 20 in-game squares? im horrible with knowledge about some games, but im an expert at trains. i can name one right off the bat, if it's american and famous, like 4449 or 1225.

Re: Trains
Even this really wouldn't work on the normal WZ sized maps as an oil pipeline would better serve moving resources around. I've got a few other thoughts on this, will try to share later though as kids are calling.AlphaThor01 wrote:maybe make it to where oil has to be transported to the power generator if the well is not within 20 in-game squares?
Re: Trains
Actually I like the idea. But rather in a form of something like the Scavengers like nature. A thing that destructs you or destroys you. For example, a cool loking, modern like train, going on its track from time to time, from one side of the map to the other, could run onto, or shall I say hit units, causing damage to them, or destroying them. In some cases even the train itself.
Also destroying a passing by train, could give some oil to a player who collect it from the vreck. Also a player who occupies a train station, let say there would be one, or two on the map. Could receive for example 100 of oil, each time a train passes through it.

Re: Trains
I'd prefer trains to fulfil a more economic role (yes, I know WZ is a war game). For example, if you get a train station working, supplies can be brought in. This could be, for example, some special units (or just more advanced than your current research allows) in return for power. Alternatively, there could be a new resource on the map which needs shipping by train to a central processing plant in return for oil/power. Or maybe in a campaign mode a train station could allow access to other maps.
Still, I think there is lots of other more priority stuff to do before trains could be considered in the game.

Re: Trains
Damn no wonder I do so bad at it, I was certain it is tour strategy and I always waited in my base for my turn(yes, I know WZ is a war game)
Yes, my oils is your supplies here I think. Or maybe it could load tanks on hardened train, which would take them and unload at other place on a map. There could be also a research path, that would allow to build both railway and train, and then harden it. Then by drowing lines, like with defences for example, draw railroads
What? seriously? where?Still, I think there is lots of other more priority stuff to do before trains could be considered in the game.
I have imagined a cart with scavengers who, exit it and go into the Scavenger factory to work in it

Re: Trains
This can be an interesting strategy. The problem is still it doesn't fit an RTS. Now if we can expand on the strategy side and add on something more akin to a TBS war game this would be huge. hmm.. makes for more idea tinkering.aubergine wrote:I'd prefer trains to fulfil a more economic role (yes, I know WZ is a war game)...
As for trains.. no, considering the date it would be maglev :p

Armed/Armored Maglevs as special campaign "boss" units? Might be something NEXUS could use in an expanded campaign to defend his base.
Off to my little Suggestion thread so I don't clog up the forum with the idea of a Battleship boss.

I'd imagine that old-fashioned locomotives would still be around by that time, especially since it would be cheaper to repair traditional train tracks than to repair maglev tracks.Lord Apocalypse wrote:As for trains.. no, considering the date it would be maglev :p
