Look at what i found!

Post by IgorBrehm »

I was searching on the internet and found these guys http://wzgraphicmods.sourceforge.net/joomla/ they have lots of graphics for warzone2100 perhaps you would like to talk with them right? Jorzi perhaps a fusion of ARproject and them should be a nice idea right? :geek: :hmm: :hmm: :stressed:   :hmm: :augh: :P

Well, I must say I thought about it a bit when I joined the AR team, but there are quite a few things that make these models unsuitable for our purposes:
-Most of them are not true to the original
-None of them has any normalmapping
-The quality of the models is very irregular
Also, since our projects have different goals, a fusion wouldn't really help...

But yeah, you found an interesting piece of warzone development history :)

WZGM is more a project to explore what the game code can do EG: animation on the models etc. not just static models.

I think that the unit shields are about the only reason to use WZGM it would be really cool if they where ported to the "official" version :)
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

The WZGM project started as a playground for new models and a holding tank while some improvements to the WZ models were being made. Over time, it evolved some cool coded features, like shields, a video dumper, random credits and backdrops, and improvements to the drawing code. The shields are definitely cool.

video dumper? as in you can save replays of games?
This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

If someone wants to have a look at the wzgm code and prefers git over svn, I've mirrored their repo here: https://github.com/cybersphinx/wzgraphicsmods

Probably more useful as something to toggle on and off to save clips. It uses glReadPixels() which is brutally slow on consumer graphics cards. And you still need to post-process the raw frames into playable video. But with a fast machine and reasonable resolution ( a dvd is 720 x 480 or so), you might be able to.

Saving orders is probably a better way to implement a replay feature.

With regards to the models, one of my favorites was the factory module upgrade. The factory model would be a single big shed, and kept getting bigger on every factory upgrade that was applied, unlike the separate sheds that we have now in the official version. And also, the shutters were open and a neat little workshop designed inside.

You can see it on the homepage at the top of the screen. http://wzgraphicmods.sourceforge.net/joomla/
