Units don't move when you click an unpassable tile

Situation: you order your units to move to an unpassable tile
Current behavior: units don't move at all
Wanted behavior: units go to the nearest (pathfinder-wise) passable tile adjacent to the target (not really precise description, but other games do that).

Current and past behaviour for as long as I can remember is that units go to the nearest tile. I just checked in newest master, it still does that.

Ahh. Except if the target is on a different 'continent' (inaccessible due to terrain), then it does not move at all. I tested with walls, that works. Probably due to continent sanity checking. You should mark this one down as a bug in the bug tracker.

Checked in 2.3.8 and master-2011-05-19: they don't move, and when we're talking about a cliff tile (not enemy building or anything else), you even get a special grey cross cursor.

Ok. I think cliff tiles have had that behaviour since forever. When/why do you want to move adjacent to a cliff?

I think it's more about moving to some area, so what if the exact tile you're clicking on can't be reached?

Yeah that's exactly my point. It's very annoying especially when you want to order your units attack enemy base and click an invisible enemy building and they don't move.

Eactly, like when a game begins and it's time to send out trucks to scout for oil... you want to send a truck out to a location that looks like it might have an oil resource. However, even if you know there's an oil well in the vicinity of where you send your truck and if you click a "feature" even though you haven't revealed it the truck sits in your base, so you need to watch your trucks after such orders to make sure they move :/ seems like much unneeded/wanted micromanagement to me.
