16 Players?

Post by Saberuneko »

Really? (I just saw that on the .po file when translating)
Is that true? If so... it just sounds awesomely promising. :3

Possibly in the trunk or master version (new renderer and everything).

Master has ten players as maximum now. I guess the extra strings are there for testing if it works well when going higher.

I notice that eve in master builds, a combat & game scale has been increased. Now, battles without limited factories seems don't fit on maps. I mean armies became larger & bases bigger that it was before. I know, if to play on 255x255 map 1x1, it a big map, but for 10 players & in case testing-mode 16 players - there will be no place to turn around, even with 450 units limitation (however there is no limit for structures).

I'm trying to say that with increasing game "capacity" we should extend a gameworld, Map size in our case. I think this problem is actual for current master with 10 maxplayers.

I was thinking about that as well -- is 250x250 the absolute maximum, and *could* it be bumped up to 512x512 or even 1024x1024? I could do a heck of a lot with that amount of space... :D

It is not very difficult to change, as such. However, there are some parts of the game that do not scale well with increasing map size, and would become very slow. I think that is a complication we do not need right now, as there are too many other vast changes that need time to settle in and stabilize.

No problem. At least we know that it's possible. Thanks Per.

well, i suppose eventually this will happen, i did start on a map that was going to be 512 x 512 ... you think map makers have trouble now...( not going insane putting in stuff) ( stuff meaning not a flat map and with bases...) just wait, especially if it goes with the 16 players. and you can quadruple the problems with 1024 x 1024. at that size - it will take, i am supposing here, about a year, for a good map. if you dont believe me - go! do! and then let me know how it goes.... XD

I can do a LOT of stuff with 1024x1024. :D

Oh, and as per your request, Mission 8's map size is now 250x250 .. and it wasn't big enough to do *everything* I had in mind. SO yeah, I'd use it.
