Have you noticed that units will detach themselves from a commander in the event that they are getting pushed by another unit? This happens with large numbers of units attached to a commander, around 32 artillery units are really required to show this behavior. To reproduce, set up one commander with at least 32 artillery units, then command the commander unit to drive some where. The subordinates units will follow in toe to keep themselves in range of that unit, but if they should come to a narrowing or to a point where they have trouble navigating and there is a lot of jostling some units will detach from the commander. These units once freed from their state do not return to the commander but remain detached. In the case where you use heavy mobile artillery units you can lose half your fire support just going from one side of the map to the other.
Is this a bug, or is this by design?
Units detaching from commander, without warning.
