Hello everyone, this is my first post. I looked up this game out of curiosity after playing the original Playstation version years ago and im addicted all over again!
Anyway, i've been playing the single player skirmish mode for about a week now and the first imporvement ideas have started popping into my head. The first, and maybe some of the simplest to implement are additional skirmish options.
Technology level - It would be nice to set a maximum technology level, you can currently set which teir to start at, why not add a setting to limit tech to t1, t2 or t3. (the fortresses and laser act like a t4 so setting t3 as the maximum would exclude these).
Save/reset skirmish settings - I usually play with the laser sat limit at 0, ai players on hard. Whenever i start a new skirmish i have to make these changes, would be nice if the game remembered my most recent preferences. A reset button could be added to quickly remove any preferences saved.
AI Tactics - not sure how much work this would involve, but creating AI sets based on Rushing/Turtling/Steamrolling tactics etc that can be applied to AI players to add a slant on your skirmish games, or used to control ai allies.
And then the BIG ONE on my mind...
Updated Textures - I've read the frequently requested ideas thread and noticed that redoing WZ2100 on a new engine is a no go. This isn't a problem because i like the current engine, especially since it plays well on my mini netbook. The only thing that makes the game look dated really is the texture resolution. Are there any plans to redo/update the textures to a higher resolution. Granted this will make the game bigger in terms of space etc but maybe they can be added as an optional add-on.
Thats it for now, and thank you for your effort in keeping such a great game alive, i wish i could contribute in some way other than to submit ideas but sadley i'm lacking in all the relevant skills.

Re: More Skirmish Options
I am sure the project could use you as a tester. What's good about having all the coders in the world if there is no one to test it?
I like the idea regarding setting tech levels to a particular maximum. I, too, have wanted to see this in game for a while now. Regarding the saving of settings, I would think this is a relatively low priority, but if it could be done, it could be useful. The AI tactics section would be very beneficial to players wanting to skirmish against some AI as it adds another element of randomness to the game. Very good ideas there.
I am unsure when we'll start seeing a lot of these updated graphics that are floating around. I downloaded the latest stable version of the game and the campaign looks the same as it always has to me. Haven't tried skirmishing yet.

Re: More Skirmish Options
I'll download the bew rc4 version and play that and if i spot any issues i'll feed them back, its difficult to pick up on whats out of place/inbalanced having only been playing on PC a week but as time goes by that'll change.
I agree that the devs have to set priorities, it looks like there is a lot of work backed up looking at the ideas threads and to give them credit i can see the updates/improvements come regularly enough to keep the rest of us engaged. It would be nice to see a fair balance between the types of updates that come, there are the updates which improve balance and therefore playability etc but don't add anything new content wise, then theyre are the 'fun' updates which might add new maps, units and skirmish options(!) etc.
