Hello, trying to help KukY with his new map...

Post by sg1efc »

Hello everyone: :)

I have been trying for hours, LoL, to help KukY. He asked for someone to take screenshots of his Triangles map, and I have been trying to help him without success. Been searching this forum and Google for the answer to this: Can someone please tell me exactly where in Ubuntu that I should paste KukYs map.... and the other 300+ maps also?

I did see this:
How do I install a map?
To install a map, move it into:
Linux: ~/.warzone2100-2.3/maps/
http://guide.wz2100.net/faq

but there was no Map folder there and even when I created one myself, the extra maps still do not show up in the Warzone map selection menu.

Thank you very much, we greatly appreciate your help. :)
My Thanks to everyone past, present and future who have helped to create & continues to improve WZ2100, you're all Awesome! :)

Try running the following in terminal,

Code: Select all

$ cd ~/.warzone2100-2.3/maps/
what does it show? If you get no error, then run this,

Code: Select all

$ pwd
If the directory does exist you will get an output that shows something like
/home/j0sh/.warzone2100-2.3/maps/
j0sh is my home directory.

Just to be clear, you can't see the "~/.warzone2100-2.3" folder ? Or you can't see just the "maps" folder within "~/.warzone2100-2.3"?

Thank you very much Josh for your quick reply. The map folder was not originally there after I compiled, so I copied the maps into a map folder that I made myself, but was not certain of the location it should be placed at in the compiled Warzone directory. When I now change to the maps folder, yes I can see all the maps in there, but they do not show up in the skirmish map selection windows, so I guess my compile went wrong somehow. Or, maybe I did not create the Maps folder in the proper location. :lol2:

Hopefully someone else can give KukY a hand in making some screenshots for his new map, info is here:
http://kuky.99k.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=30

Thanks very much Josh and everyone else for your help. :)

If I ever win a lottery, I will hire someone to make .Deb installation packages for each version of WZ2100. :lol2:

Maybe someone else will be able to help you. So keep visiting this thread, someone from the project staff will surely help you fix your problem.

Debian packaging isn't hard that you need to hire anyone, you can do it yourself :)

Debian New Maintainers' Guide

There is already someone in the project staff who does Debian packaging, maybe he will even guide you if you're interested in learning how it's done. :hmm:

I will keep reading here, Thanks. :)

Holy cow! I can't even compile and you think I can learn what's at Debian New Maintainers' Guide ? Not going to happen, at least not tonight, LoL. :lol2:

Thanks again J0sh.

PS - Normally I just download the latest WZ2100 Windows version and install it through Wine emulator and it always works great for me in Ubuntu = no compiling. :lol2:

If you got any doubts then just ask. :)

When it comes to compiling anything, all I have is doubts. :lol2:

Actually, have you ever tried to install a WZ2100 windows version in Wine when using Ubuntu? It is just about as easy to do as clicking on a .exe file in Windows. 8) The few times I have tried to compile things in the past, each time I messed up somehow. Might be simple for you, but definitely not for me, LoL :lol2: Thanks again. :)

It runs very well for me on my basic Dell Inspiron 570, with an Nvidia 9500 video card I added. Certainly not a top of the line desktop but much better than my old Dell Dimension 4600. :D

I believe the native build would run a lot smoother than under wine.. :hmm:

That's sad to hear. I will assume that you never asked for help over the errors that you got.

Everyone's very helpful on the forum. Just recently I had a compile error and it was fixed instantly with help from the developers.

I agree that it may be easy. But I generally don't like to use Wine, Cedega, CrossOver, etc. And this is only my personal preference. :D

:lecture:
I prefer to support Free and Open Source Softwares by playing open source games that programmers have taken the trouble to make as volunteers :geek:

EDIT: Again, all these statements are based on my personal preference. Using Wine doesn't mean that you are doing something bad.

Come to think of it, your use of Wine could be the reason why you are not able to find the "maps" folder.

Have you tried browsing through the Windows directories created by Wine? The "maps" folder would probably be under
"My Documents\Warzone 2100 2.3\maps\"

EDIT: Oh, one more thing, Wine is not an emulator. The full form of WINE is "Wine Is Not an Emulator"
