High image resolution on forums.

Post by Boris »

Why you upload so big images!? Do you have adobe photoshop, corel paintshop pro or some programs like that?! to compress and change size of images.
Im add this topic because high images not good for forums.
With small images is much faster and easy.
when people use phones many of them are angry because cannot see screenshot of maps or is to much time needs for page refresh.
Forums is active server (like chat) not a simple web site.
So zarel,i think you need create limits like on logo.,about 100kb.And 800x600 maximum resolution.

Well, any graphical viewer is capable of doing that, not just hi-end software that rarely someone has money to buy... And don't say to people to compress images, because they'll end up converting them to .jpeg-s which make your eyes hurt just by looking at them because of bad quality-compression ratio... Maybe some people would even place images in archives

Image
This .jpeg image is small: it has ~5kB. Please look at the quality.
Not worth the bandwith saved...

That is thing of your phone's speed. 3G connections have no problems handling that, the fact that you are still using GPRS or something like it is your problem...
Boris wrote:Forums is active server (like chat) not a simple web site.
Servers are fast enough to handle much more then several active users and hi-res images.

Zarel is not the only one of WZ staff, you know? memberlist.php?mode=leaders
And that wouldn't be a good idea. That would only make users upload on image hosting services and therefore increasing loading time because of connection to multiple servers. And increase chances of incidents like one Saberuneko had recently.

However, phpBB has support for ImageMagick, which could solve all problems you are thinking on... :hmm:

  1. Well, many people don't.
  2. Adobe never made any of it's software free. There are only free pirate downloads. That is called breaking copyright laws.
  3. You say things about about image loading time and size, so you are.
  4. So is, for example, Cybersphinx, Buginator, or lately EvilGuru.
  5. If you mind that I am more then twice younger then you, feel free to ignore me.

  1. No, they just need to know how to make a map. That's it. And map makers aren't the only ones who upload images...
  2. Maybe it comes with a modified(Read: "pirated")version. But it doesn't come with Microsoft's XP. And it isn't free. It has been replaced by a newer versions, but that doesn't make it free.
  3. Yes.
  4. Neither is Zarel.
  5. Depends what kind of expirience.

True. But opera mini dont show original images and pages. Compress is about 60-80%.
Opera 10 symbian show complete page,Because that opera mini is much faster. But When you surf 1 or 2 hours, on phones with low ram memory can show errors.

No, we are not going to limit things. Users are free to use whatever images they want.
