Does PIE Slicer works on Windows 7? Please help!

Post by Black Project »

Hi

My father has just purchased a new PC to him, but with Windows 7 installed (not that crap of Windows Vista)

The new PC will come in about 7 days or a few more, then after it will come to my house, we'll test it, but here comes the PROBLEM.

He wants to give this PC with Windows 7 to me if we both like it (Then he'll purchase another one), he will just test what he thinks about it, but i fear compability problems and my biggest fear is if the PIE Slicer works on PIE Slicer or not.

If does work, fine! If not, i'll have no way but use another 3D Modelling program and spend about 1 or 2 months (or even more) to learn and handle with a program, and i don't want it to happen.

If someones has Windows 7 please do this on the following instructions:

1) Donwload PIE Slicer => http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/stratadrake/utils/
2) Install it somewhere
3) Try to run it, if appears a error message that a .OCX file is missing not registered, download that missing file (search it on google) and put it on PIE Slicer directory, if even not works, try registering it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

BP I downloaded the program and tried it out. So far I haven't been able to get it to work. I supplied the missing .ocx and registered, it still won't work. Not sure why I was still getting the same error message. Missing or unregistered .ocx. At a guess from what I've been able to read on the web it may be a 64 bit problem. Don't quote me I'm not an expert on computers, just good enough to fix what I cause or find on my computer. Sorry I can't give good news. Maybe somebody who has more knowledge can get it to work.

Windows 7 has XP mode(or however it is called), which transparantely runs defined programs in XP enviorment.

I think you will be able to run it into that mode.

And not all editions of Windows 7 have that option...

Which editions of the Windows 7 have this "XP Mode"?

I believe that another members such Zarel, Jorzi, etc (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4079&start=15#p57984) operates the Windows 7 and i might have sure that they have knownledge about these compability issues.

Still waiting for more answers.

Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise have windows XP mode, most standard computers will come with Home Premium which doesn't support it. You could always update the OS or dual boot or use a program like virtual box and install XP. :)

I haven't rebooted into Windows 7 for like three weeks. All I can tell you is that Windows XP Mode is a good last resort, but I'd think it wouldn't be needed.

I asked my father which edition is installed on the new PC and it's a Windows 7 Home Premium :(

Yeah, looks like it's gonna be my last weeks with the good old school PIE Slicer DX and spend precious months to learn another modelling program like Blender or 3D Studio Max  :annoyed: :stressed:

When the PC arrives, i'll see what can i do, it's not all over yet, the hope is the last to die.

I believe there is a way to make VMware simulate that mode...
