Please help me with making friendship with Pie Slicer

Post by MulTiPlayeR »

Hi everyone, who are reading this.
I`ve downloaded Pie Slicer, and tried to understand it for around half an hour. The exact what I want to know, is how to open WZ textures(for example propulsions) so I can measure them and embody them with platilin )
Sorry if I made any grammar or other mistakes - I`m only learning

Moving to modding, since more people will be able to help you there.

Oh, also, Pie Slicer uses .pcx textures, we long ago dropped that, so you need to convert them, or try your hand at using masks like this thread: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=4951
and it ends here.

I wrongly asked question, so you misunderstood me.
Using *textures* I meant 3d models.

If you want to modify the textures you will need a paint/graphics program such as Gimp or Paintshop pro, these are examples you can use what you want to edit the textures.
You will find the textures in your warzone folder (what ever your warzone is called/warzone2100)/data/base/texpages if you have downloaded source.
Best way is to dive into your warzone directory and see whats in it.

Good Luck

You must unzip the .wz files that are in your root directory of warzone - base.wz and mp.wz. Those are merely uncompressed .zip packages renamed to .wz extension. Those contain the base files (everything that is common to signle player campaign, skirmish and multiplayer) and the multiplayer-exclusive files, respectively.

As Berg said, it is fundamental that you search through the files there, paying attention to their names and in which folders they're contained. After you're familiarized with the folder structure, you're already a big step closer to modding, in what gives respect to assemblying functional .wz mods (yeah, mods are uncompressed .zip packages renamed to .wz, just like the original file packages). Of course, artistical production is something apart - takes a lot of time, demands many hours, is not quick, requires patience and is time-consuming, all at the same time :hmm:

Now, after you've tried to draw your own conclusions by opening the original files, you should question us about what you didn't understand - this way we can optimize what info we give you

Anyway, I wouldn't reccomend that you use pieslicer for anything else than creating connectors (special points that tells where weapons and propulsions should be placed on bodies and structures), unless you want to keep your skills fine-tuned for warzone. Actually, modding warzone is indeed very specific and can be very tricky as well, for example, the whole file structure and the information contained within the files is VERY strictly constructed - a simple space or a blank line can ruin an otherwise perfect mod, and make the game fatally crash during loading proccess O_o

You should search a bit for information on how to use blender to import/export .pie files (which is your 3d model format for warzone), because it is a very powerful tool if you know how to use it.

Now, go ahead and hunt those files - it's a fundamental learning experience if you want to mod warzone :)
