There is way too much research in beta. In skirmish, the whole game turns into watching your research. Not that it's too little in stable. And structures, many tabs of structures, some of which one would never use during a game.
My proposal would be to move towers/hardpoints/emplacements into bodies framework and allow player to put newly researched weapons on these just as on regular bodies, without any additional research. Put control in player's hands, so to speak. And then I guess it would be easier to add new defense structures as well.

Cool dragon, btw. I think if it would have its rear part heightened a bit, this would solve the two guns intersection problem.

Structure designing is already on the list:

I'm tirelessly trying to laugh at your username - to no effect, stillgenitalia wrote:There is way too much research in beta. In skirmish, the whole game turns into watching your research. Well, research for warzone is one of the most significant ways of making up for the lack of a proper faction system for skirmish/multiplayer. With it, you can customize your technologies to make up for what you can know your enemy is doing, or simply to make your favorite strategies easier. Partial domain over it is one of the essential skills of a good Warzone 2100 player. Complete domain over it (memorizing it) is probably impossible, that's why we have a nice system to view the pre-requirements for all techs, in the Guide. Here's a link, it's really easy to figure out how to use:
http://guide.wz2100.net/
There indeed could be a way of marking research items you don't want, but that would cause many problems and people getting confused about "where did my research items go?" or something
About the idea of designing defensive structures, you'll be interested in reading this:

About Dragon, it's a known issue and we are correcting it in AR by replacing dragon's overall layout with a creation of mine, please take a look at this topic for more info:

Reminded me that the devs actually mentioned it could be used as a replacement for the current Dragon in the standard releases. One more reason why I should get back to working with this model (I've stopped temporarily because of my frustration when attempting to convert propulsion models and fit them in the body model - that should be solved using some useful tips about blender export script I've got recently, though
For those last two problems, there is already a good solution that you can use for countless other problems you've found, here's yet another useful link:search.php
That's pretty much about it. I daresay you could think about changing to a better username, with this one some people could be offended or something, even though it's a scientific name - just a friendly opinion. Use the search funcion and read what goes on what boards as well, as this might avoid unnecessary confusion

Change your username, please, or we shall have to change it forcibly. See also site policy.genitalia wrote:[username]
And considering 2.3 is like 2 weeks from release, we'd like it done ASAP; thanks. At the very least, just recolor it to match Wyvern.Olrox wrote:About Dragon, it's a known issue and we are correcting it in AR by replacing dragon's overall layout with a creation of mine, please take a look at this topic for more info:

Ok, I'll see if I can handle to convert the propulsions properly now, or find someone who can help me with this. I'll have to make the hover propulsion as well as make some modifications to the land propulsions altogether. I think I can make it this weekend or soZarel wrote: And considering 2.3 is like 2 weeks from release, we'd like it done ASAP; thanks. At the very least, just recolor it to match Wyvern.

Re: Research spam
As a temporary measure, I'd recommend resizing the model so it matches the current Dragon - that way, no propulsion modifications are needed. In general, I'd prefer if metrics were matched, so that old and new body/propulsion models can be mixed and matched.Olrox wrote:Ok, I'll see if I can handle to convert the propulsions properly now, or find someone who can help me with this. Re: Research spam
Well, actually the only ones that are troublesome are VTOL and hover - with the VTOL propulsion there's no other wa to make it look good, other than mantaining the exact same geometry as Dragon (which is wide and flat). The problem with the hover propulsion is much similar, since it's due to the same fact that Dragon is wider and flatter than Hydra.Zarel wrote:As a temporary measure, I'd recommend resizing the model so it matches the current Dragon - that way, no propulsion modifications are needed. For the Super-Heavy Body, altering those propulsions to fit the body wouldn't be too much of a trouble since all its propulsion models seems to be exclusive (ir at least hover and VTOL are). Of course, for standard heavy, medium and light bodies, they must be universal.
BTW, could you merge this to the Multi-turret topic? Thanks

Re: Research spam
.
Very interesting discussion here.
Wonder if "Dick" would be an acceptable nick for the boards ?
It is completely acceptable as a nick for "Richard" though it does have the strong genitalia connotation in street vernacular - (as does "cock" as in Alcock). Heck it was former US President Richard Nixon's common nick & was often appended as "Tricky Dick". An other very common euphemism for genitalia is "Johnson" which is also the second most common sur name (Smith being # 1).
It is true too that ''genitalia" is the acceptable scientific-clinical term for the mamalian male reproductive organ.
But as for the whole Research & Dragon body I basically agree with Olrox & have nothing useful to add other than I think the switch-tasking involved in non-combat taskings needs to be better offset when it comes to better command & control mechanics in combat.

True enough, but "Dick" has more than a single meaning: it can be, for example, short for "Dickinson". His nickname has a single one, afaikRman Virgil wrote:.

I don't see any real reason why someone would use that as a nickname other than to make dirty jokes or something, or try to make people think abut it when they don't want to. I think that it would be similarily censored if someone posted photos of brain surgery, for example - even though it's scientifical, there's no reasonable motive to post it here, and it may offend people as well.
Anyway, the board administration already requested him to change it, otherwise it'll be changed without further warnings, so there's no actual reason to keep thinking about it
I agree with that, and hope that the future GUI improvements brings along new ways to keep things you want out of your way, out of your way, or at least classified (to avoid confusion as the OP mentoned)Rman Virgil wrote: But as for the whole Research & Dragon body I basically agree with Olrox & have nothing useful to add other than I think the switch-tasking involved in non-combat taskings needs to be better offset when it comes to better command & control mechanics in combat.
