Extended Campaign Game
I read somewhere a while back that someone was working on a follow up to the single player campaign game, does anyone know if anything came of it?

.
There have been at least a dozen Campaigns proposed over the years - none ever completed, most never getting out of the hot air phase and those that actually created tangible work were never released.
Black Project's WZ 2120 is not a Campaign - it is a complex Mod.

Ah, I see.
Is there a general consensus about a follow up storyline of any sort? the return of nexus, factional warfare or just something else?
(I'm assuming that everyone has their own take, just wondering

Well, the 3 I've worked on had common threads like the return of Nexus, more factions, much expanded time line, very detailed back story, new tech, GPMs and 1 one even worked out a branching Mission schema. As for the rest I'm familiar with, they took place all over the planet - Australia, England, the former USSR, and so on. Also off world - Mars being the most developed.Conor wrote:Ah, I see.

Doing a Campaign of even 20 Missions is a HUGE undertaking - much like making a Feature Motion Picture. Many talents and skills required, working in tight coordination, over a LONG period. An interdisciplinary, sustained continuity, that IMHO is THE most challenging endeavor possible with this game. Never say never, but i think it highly unlikely it will ever happen for a host of reasons I''ll leave unspoken.

Reason #1, most people wait for someone else to do the work.Rman Virgil wrote: An interdisciplinary, sustained continuity, that IMHO is THE most challenging endeavor possible with this game. My telepatic connection tells me that it could take much more than a few lines to explain the reasons - It would be probably a boring proccess to both writer and reader. The problem involves the whole proccess of organizing the work, and following the right order. It is a long step-stone bridge in a river, and usually people want to skip many stones of try it in an order that is bound to failure.Crymson wrote:Reason #1, most people wait for someone else to do the work.Rman Virgil wrote: An interdisciplinary, sustained continuity, that IMHO is THE most challenging endeavor possible with this game. Anyone that comes up with an "idea" should be conscious that there is a lot of work involved. And everything needs coordination, no matter how many are involved.
Usually most projects fail the same way as a building that has the pillars of one side much stronger than the ones in other sides, trying to support all the weight the other pillars can't. The very base must be solid, and the development of all the pillars (pillars of development if you are following the abstraction) must be carefully coordinated, otherwise the building will surely fall in the weaker side, bringing everything else together.

Re: Extended Campaign Game
I've worked on a mod or two in the past (not for WZ2100) and usually the case has been that projects have some very good ideas but are too ambitious for an "amateur" team and fail because it simply ends up sucking in too much of peoples time when they also have school/work/family etc...
How long would it take to create a single mission, comparative to the first mission from the official campaign?
(I have an excess of night shift coming up, and want to fill it with more than wow for once)
