Map Preview is blank

Post by Vancer2 »

Hello I just downloaded the beta 11a and Everything is great except for the only problem. When I try and create a skirmish game. The map previews are just a black screen with the numbers where the start positions are. :S Any help?? I googled every way I could. and to no avail. D:

The maps that came with the game :( I don't think hardware is an issue the map works just fine its just that when you click on the map preview icon in the skirmish game setup it just shows a black screen with the numbers. There is no crashing it just doesn't show the terrain for the map. There is no errors or anything I have'nt edited the game at all.

Hardware and software can always both be a problem. Please post your OS, and your computer specs (especially your graphics card, as this seems to be a display issue). If you don't, it's really nearly impossible to pinpoint your problem

There are even some modern chipsets that can cause problems, and some old ones that don't cause any at all (other than low performance) - like my GeForce 5200 FX 8)

In addition, did you try to reinstall the game?

I agree with Olrox, it sounds looks like a video driver problem.

I found this post deep in the forum.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3218

I don't have the same problem he does, I can see the game world and play the game. its just I would like to see a preview of the map first before I play it, The mini-map works fine in-game If that helps. This is THE only problem I have encountered.

Why do people buy PCs with intel graphics? :x
I always hear, "If you're going to edit graphics use an ATI Radeon, if you're going to render graphics or play, use a GeForce" :P

And WTF, a HP pavilion dv6 with intel graphics? That's somewhat weird, I thought most of them came with GeForces. I have a HP pavilion dv6 105us with a GeForce 6150 - it's still crappy but better than the one I've had a few weeks ago :P at least now I can run trunk and see the terrain textures 8)

But what's most weird is, why is only the map preview not showing? Hmm, really weird. Probably the solution is to get a real GPU :hmm:

Why do people buy PCs with intel graphics? Cost. A manufacturer can put a video chip on a motherboard for just a few dollars. And if all you are doing is email and surfing the interwebs, it will do just fine. 3D graphics is another story.

Things you can try to make your lame machine work better with WZ and other OpenGL applications:

* Turn of any compositing window managers and desktop effects( Aero, compiz, kde4 effects)

* update your video driver. The manufacturer's drivers tend to work better.

* turn down hardware acceleration. Yeah, it sounds unintuitive, but it is known to help in some cases.

Things you can do with a PC with Intel graphics: Play nearly any 3D game in existence (including, for instance, StarCraft II).

3D OpenGL games are another story, but unfortunately, Warzone is one of very few such games.

I blame the Microsoft monopoly (but not Microsoft themselves - nothin' wrong with gaining marketshare).

I am able to edit openGL settings using this window from the Intel device properties. I must say I don't know what any of these things mean. Would editing any of these options help. And If you would be so kind as to explain a little bit on what each of these options do?

Your Driver Memory Footprint is on "high". Mine is on "normal". That might fix the problem. Also check to see if your drivers are up to date. Click the info tab it'll show you links to check updates and problems. The update link will take you to the Intel website to check if you need to update. You'll probably have to install an active-x plug-in to ind updates. Do the update first or even if changing your Driver Memory Footprint works But create a 'restore point' just in case the update makes it worse.

What the driver memory footprint actually means is... you have an intel graphics card that "shares" some of you regular RAM - it does not have it's own graphics RAM so this setting controls HOW much of that RAM is shared. In order to know what setting is best please

1. right click on "my computer"
2. click on "properties"
3. look through the tabs....

and depending on you computer it should tell

1. your built in RAM amount
2. how much of it is shared currently with that setting at "high"

please post both of those :). Also turning off "antiastropic filtering" will help take the load off your Graphics card :)

My computer has 4 gigs of built-in ram.
I couldn't find where it shows the amount of ram used. I used DXdiag and it gave me 1,759 mb.
