Host needs more control!
Host needs more control!
In a game today, some cheating asswipe was spawning nonstop laser satellite attacks, and they ruined our game.
Can't the host kick people within the game, and add that asswipe's IP to a "do not play with this idiot" file?

Re: Host needs more control!
Lol, I like the theory of banning people from your games.
Re: Host needs more control!
Should be easy to add, and I don't think many people would play behind a proxy.
Actually, adding the kick command, and adding the IP would be easy. I have no idea how you would set up a ban list in the GUI though.

Banning the IP on these days isn't an effective method. Have you ever read about dynamic IPs? Well... Now I will tell you that >90% of IPs are dynamic this days...
But, the idea of host being able to kick a player on that cases, is good.

Well, if we had a dialog box of "Let player X enter the game?" that would avoid some problems. The guy requests once again, you deny. He repeats just to keep annoying, you just let the dialog box sitting there while you wait for a trustworthy player to appear. Just a thought.

People can't join in the middle of a game. This guy's talking about kicking someone after they've started playing, for misbehavior.Olrox wrote:Well, if we had a dialog box of "Let player X enter the game?" that would avoid some problems. I believe there's already game code for this, but no UI for it. I suppose it's not too hard to add, though.
Re: Host needs more control!
Well dynamic IPs are a problem but in a lot of cases a ban list would still work for that day and prevent them from joining the very next game. I for one can't change my IP unless I disconnect for 12 hours.
Re: Host needs more control!
An option to turn that on would be nice. And should display player medals - so you can spot them after they changed nickname.Olrox wrote:Well, if we had a dialog box of "Let player X enter the game?" that would avoid some problems.
I've already seen 2 'players' annoyingly joining, offending and crashing the fun. We could simply rehost with this option on, and problem solved. Password won't do, as we won't be able to exchange it without the spammer knowing it.
As a permanent dialog box it could be annoying. But if it's an option no one can comlain about it.

What map was it? I've seen a limits with many Laser Sats but not within a map. Perhaps the host new but didnt tell anyone.Flank4 wrote:In a game today, some cheating asswipe was spawning nonstop laser satellite attacks, and they ruined our game.
If this was implemented by blocking players name it could be very accurate but would required name registration. If this was implemented by ip it would open a can of worms for people to complain about not working the way they want. Name registration has allready been suggested and rejected but... Name registration can be done without having email address. It could be fully automated by Warzone by tying name to hardware such as the hard drive serial number. Or two pieces of hardware. Wazone can check a database on the lobbyserver and nobody would have to maintain it. If a player reinstalls then warzone would be able to verify its the same player. Players or cheaters using other people names would also be stopped. Drawbacks would be... If there are multiple people playing on the same computer they would have to use the same name. If someone wanted to play from a different computer and use the same name they cant, they would have to tie a new name to that computer.Zarel wrote:I believe there's already game code for this, but no UI for it. Here's my solution: Kicking someone blocks their IP for the duration of the current game. So people couldn't join repeatedly (getting a new IP isn't fast enough for someone to spam joining), and you wouldn't accidentally block anyone important, since the block would expire before the next game.
Re: Host needs more control!
I meant it would be useful because, when you kick someone for misbehaviour (perhaps cheating), you may probably want to start a new game. Some suckers would want to keep joining/exitting the game repeatedly just to spoil the whole thing, then.Zarel wrote: People can't join in the middle of a game. I don't know enough about dynamic IPs, or coding itself, so possibly you'll be able to find a better option

That should work.Zarel wrote:Here's my solution: Kicking someone blocks their IP for the duration of the current game. What? I don't know why you need to wait that time...DuKe2112 wrote:I for one can't change my IP unless I disconnect for 12 hours.
Once, I changed my IP like 10 times in less than an hour...
Re: Host needs more control!
Yeah that depends on how long the ISP reserves the IP after disconnect. Some don't at all, some a few minutes, some do a few hours.

I see... My current ISP is awesome, then!
