The Plasma Cannon and Mortar fire the same thing right? If that's so, then why are the ranges vastly different?
The Plasma Cannon is useless partly because of its range, but the Plasma Mortar is overpowered partly because of its range. Could someone explain this? Should Plasma weapons be short-ranged or long-ranged?

They fire the same "thing", but they have vastly different launchers.
I mean, light cannon and ground shaker fire roughly the same thing (ballistic projectiles), and yet one is extremely long-ranged, and one is extremely short-ranged.

Plasma Mortar?
Am I missing something?
Is he talking about that structure from the last mission, or is there a Plasma mortar thats been added that I never noticed?

Right... Theoretical strategy time: A plasma cannon's primary use is to fire directly at ground targets at relatively short range, and therefore requires little range, and relatively rapidly moving shots. Think Plasma... anything from the Halo games.
A plasma mortar, on the other hand, is usually used to fire at relatively long ranges at stationary, armored targets, or even mobile targets that aren't moving very quickly. Or, in emergencies, at nearby ground targets in a fairly direct path (long and flat). Think Wraiths from Halo.
Pumpkin obviously had those roles in mind when designing the weapons. Furthermore, the Plasma Cannon would be extremely unbalanced (keep in mind, this is very important to developers of most games) if it had more range, and the Plasma Mortar was intended to be a weapon to which you would have no counter.

"There is no greater Void than the one between your ears." - Void Ray, StarCraft 2.
Especially the Void between the ears of people who think that No VTOL is a good idea, and won't lead to arty wars. I've won one, and I have to say: I hated it.
