Bring back the formation speed option
Bring back the formation speed option
Or at least make units move at maximum speed, regardless of the speed of the slowest unit. The formation speed thing was a great idea and I really enjoyed playing Warzone because I don't have to micromanage my units as much.
I've found a way to restore the original projectile speeds, but I haven't a clue as to how I can bring this thing back to my games.

Re: Bring back the formation speed option
You are not making any sense. Formation speed off (which is what you have now in beta8) is "units move at maximum speed, regardless of the speed of the slowest unit".
Re: Bring back the formation speed option
Wrong. When I try to move my units as a group, they move at the speed of the slowest unit. Hovers and cyborgs move as slow as the tracked tanks in groups that I make.Per wrote:You are not making any sense. Re: Bring back the formation speed option
You are right. In beta8 it is not disabled as I had thought. I missed one place in the code where it was turned on. I will fix it.
Re: Bring back the formation speed option
Regardless, it should still be toggleable in singleplayer, even if it defaults to off...
Re: Bring back the formation speed option
Where can I find the thing that toggles it?Zarel wrote:Regardless, it should still be toggleable in singleplayer, even if it defaults to off...

No, I mean that we should make it so it's still toggleable. It's currently completely removed.

Yes, it should be toggleable, I'd like to keep them in close formation, sometimes, that's good for me. ^^

Re: Bring back the formation speed option
Indeed. But why limit the possibility of toggling it on o single-player? It comes in as handy in multi-player. Having your faster high-range/low durability units like AT-vehicles rush ahead of the die hard MBTs is definitely NOT good.

Re: Bring back the formation speed option
It's still easy to make the other units go faster, double click one of the fast units in the group, (all similar units will get selected) and click where do you want to send them, they will go at their maximum speed. (I usually divide each group in 2 divisions, group 1, for example, is composed with group 1,2&3. 1 for all units on group one, 2 for fast ones, and 3 for slow... at least I do that when I only manage 3 fronts... If I have to manage more, well... The option, being toggleable would be good thing anywhere, not only in Singleplayer mode.

Because it's broken in multiplayer. In singleplayer it might have bugs as well, but at least it doesn't cause desyncs then.Corporal Punishment wrote:But why limit the possibility of toggling it on o single-player?
Re: Bring back the formation speed option
Here is something interesting to try with formation speed limiting in versions earlier than beta8: Take one fast unit, and one slow unit, and put them on opposite sides of the map, then make each move toward the exact same spot on the map. Notice that they will both move "in formation speed".
The whole formation speed stuff is ridiculous. We are going to need to reimplement it.

Still better than nothing. I vote to add it back for singleplayer (but disabled by default).Per wrote:Here is something interesting to try with formation speed limiting in versions earlier than beta8: Take one fast unit, and one slow unit, and put them on opposite sides of the map, then make each move toward the exact same spot on the map. It's true, I just tried doing that, and looks really weird... Make it toggleable.Zarel wrote:Still better than nothing. Can't some formation system be done? I've already seen some in other games, so I think it is possible to do...
Just playing with relative positions between units and forcing that positions.

You mean fixed formation form, and placing units in it by range?Saberuneko wrote:Can't some formation system be done? I've already seen some in other games, so I think it is possible to do...
