AI Truck Copycats

Post by YeahThatGuy »

I am not sure if one would consider this a bug but in both versions 2.2 and 2.3 I notice that the AI uses the same truck as the one the player starts with, meaning that if you change its design, the computer will do the same. It is a nice feature for maps like Concrete where there are islands, but can easily exploited ( exempli gratia, changing its turret to a sensor for an early-game advantage ).

I took a quick look at the scripts for the AI and noticed some templates. I tried making designs called ViperMG01Wheels and ViperMG02Wheels to see if I was able to change all of the computer's vehicles but was unsuccessful.

Personally I enjoy the option to affect the computer, especially if I were to skirmish on a map where it does not operate well on, but to avoid mistakingly dooming the AI, maybe its Truck design should be different from the player's default design. I have a feeling, however, that this would lead to the player no longer having this advantage even if they created a design with the same name, correct?

Yeah, that's the bug I fixed before it was reverted. :[

I'll re-fix it sooner or later.

As far as i know it was from the original game. I remember having that when i was paying back then.
Btw,i would love to see option added to a truck to not autorepair.I hate when a truck goes off on its own and gets in the line of fire or abstracts the space where i want it to build stuff.

Will be fixed before 2.3 is released.

It already exists, it's called "Hold Position". If you don't want to use the unit orders menu, you can just select the truck and hit "s".

Hmm... same happens for me, but with mechanic cyborgs... They just SPAM themselves in the middle of my base... Don't know why...

If I recall correctly, the update so that units move out of build spaces is underway. Devs, feel free to correct me.

Especially the Void between the ears of people who think that No VTOL is a good idea, and won't lead to arty wars. I've won one, and I have to say: I hated it.

Yes... but doesn't work with the enemy repair cyborgs, they keep spamming theirselves in the middle of my base, without any reason I can understand.

They are the enemy. Why would they, or should they, move out of your way? They are trying to prevent you from building a better base or better defenses that will eventually help you clobber them!

Also by doing that, they can get your artillery to work against you.

So that's a weird strategy for an AI, hum... btw... I just put some flamers inside the base for solving my problem ^^

omg yeah this old bug!! XD i think ai should build stronger trucks by themself, i mean if this bug gets fixed, then they keep making the weak vipers, if they research new body's, they should use those for truck =)

i keep smashing massive trucks of the ai, but i like it sometimes to give them a strong unit after a long time by editting the truck in game to dragon or so =P

(oh yeah basic AI dont build wyvern nor dragon =( )
... where did all the good ol classic ai's gone to? Turtle AI , Super AI

I usually delete the starting truck design once I use a different type of truck. How is the Ai affected by that?

I don't know if anyone tested that... also, you can edit existing designs if you didn't know.

Then the AI builds deleted trucks O_o. Which eventually results in random hard to debug crashes, usually a long time later.

It should be fixed in the next beta... For now, player 0 shouldn't delete the truck template when playing against AIs.
