Tactics?
hey guys, i am new here and I love playing warzone 2100! its the best free rts game in my opinion,
i have a questions about tactics:
What is the best design for VTOL? Like what body and weapons make it the fastest and strongest of them all against every unit and building? Like a multi purpose VTOL, that is fast and strong, i usually make them with plasmite bombs, because they burn the longest over the widest area and cause most damage to buildings and units, only disatvantage: very slow and heavy! so what do you create for VTOLs? same with tanks, what type of combo do you make and think is most effective??

As far as I know, and I'm somewhat new to this myself. Is that there is no such thing as 1 set design that is simply stronger and faster then everything. It gives balance, so you have to sacrifice power for speed or visa versa. I personally use heavy cannon python track tanks as my favorite unit. With enough upgrades they have a ton of health and deal pretty damn good damage. But they are expensive and move really really really slow. You can't really have both, it's either speed or power. But from what I can tell faster weaker units cost less to make, so what they lack in power they can make up in numbers.

Like Frox said, you have to balance.
You may have both speed and strenght, but only with Nexus and super heavy bodies. But that is very expensive...
For VTOLs;
Use Scorpion. It is fast and has low HP, but for VTOLs HP won't matter, as long as they can escape quickly.
As weapon use Lancers, Tank Killers, Bunker Busters and other rockets. Don't use things like Machineguns, Mini Pods and Cannons. Also sometimes use bombs.
Later, when you are powerful, you can afford exotic combinations like Vegenace Pulse Laser and Retribution Plasmite bomb. They are both fast and have enough HP to live longer than their target.

thank you guys, what about defence turrets? i figured out that the strongest and the one with longest range is the hellstorm enplacement, what do you guys think?

Are you kidding? You can't defend yourself with only indirect fire emplacements. Build a row of hardcrete, a row of anti-personnel emplacements (MG bunker, pulse laser pit) in front of it, and a row of antitank hardpoints behind it (lancer hardpoint, scourge hardpoint.)
Behind it, sure, go ahead and build lots and lots of artillery, waste all your money on artillery, and hope you don't get VTOLed.
Pro tip: AA turrets can and should go on tanks.

And Missile Fortresses are strongest. Excluding fortresses, Scourge Tower, Pulse Laser Tower, and Gauss Hardpoint are all pretty powerful.

i kno archangels have the longest and are pretty powerful, only problem is, they only work if put on tanks, if i build an archangel turret/ground site emplacement then they never shoot at anything!!! even if i have sensors and CB sensors!!! any help??

They really are. They can destroy most of tanks in one shot and shoot down VTOLs if it is needed.Zarel wrote:And Missile Fortresses are strongest.

Did you make the sensor right beside the arch-angels? cause they can only shoot at what the sensor sees. and they basically go across the whole map and sensors cant see very far in comparison. Sensors near the front lines are required. Also if I manage to make a game last far enough into the tech tree I wanted to try making mobile archangels and assigning them to a sensor so that one may choose what they shoot at. and pick out more important targets

ok with the sensor part, i try that out, and did anyone make a mod without laser satellite strikes? they are nice to have, but not when you get bombed all the times in skirmish games, then it gets annoying, so any ideas about that?

You won't need a mod soon, btw; the next beta of 2.3 will have support for disabling LasSats.
