This was what I was getting at in my comments on that ticket.
1. reverts the change to tex.h that will fix a bug again
2. fixes 3 compiling errors related to 1.
This should be applied against Trunk r8593

it works on Linux x64 but I don't have a Mac nor a Windows computer to test it on.
it should be ok on Linux 32bit too
What does everyone think?
