Mist setting: lack on knowledge of where you have been

Post by bugmenot »

Bug #1016:
When using the mist setting you have no knowledge of where you have previously explored.

I searched and appearently the minimap in the original version also had the fog of war effect that now it has only in the fog of war setting.

Perhaps some comprimise is needed so you can still know where you have been and where you havent while using the mist setting.

Also it looks to me that the mist setting should have been named no fog. since i cant see anything mist like thing at all...

I think having slightly darkned areas for areas you cant see (cant see enemy units) will also be helpful (Look at any modern strategy game to see what i'm talking about)

Also you can put the where you have been in mist mode in the minimap have some effect on unexplored areas, If you cant come up with an effect that you think will not disturb the players that make it into a keyboard shortcut that enables/disables it.
I made this post since maybe it wil get more exposure here... I want to know peoples opinion on this.

This has been brought up before, and I am in favor of resurrecting this feature. It should, however, be an option or hotkey, not the default.

I, for one want the terrain darkened where I can't see. Most of the time I end up playing with [SHIFT + F12] so I can see what my units sight range is. A dark mist would fix this.
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

What if it was like fog of war but the darkness was half transparent. This would allow
you to see tarain but let you know where you haven't been.

I think someone should take this to make it good enough to run all the time and also make it look better (Round edges instead of square).

Still there is no way to know where you have been or haven't when using the mist setting and that's a really annoying handicap when playing in that mode. So I really think something should be implemented for this.

The Z button shows what areas of the map are currently visible, not where you have been and not been. If there was another button like the Z button that did show explored territory, I'd be happy.
