Hi. Could somebody clarify for me how artillery and ripple rocket target decisions work? I am at a point in the game where having these are pretty much the only thing that matters for winning. But sometimes they seem unreliable and exhibit some strange behavior. For example, in one mission I built a few ripple rocket (buildings), which shot continuously at the enemy base and the enemy buildings. Then I built a few more even closer to the enemy base, but these ones just sat there and did not fire at anything throughout the entire mission.
In contrast, the enemy ripple rockets somehow manage to shred my units from half-way across the map, even if it apparently has no sensors or units nearby to tell the rockets where to aim at.
Constructing sensor buildings doesn't always seem to be enough to get these weapons active. I found that if I take a lot of mobile units and throw them at the enemy, the artillery/rockets will provide support fire but that is kind of expensive because I lose all of my troops in the process. Is there a way, once you know where the enemy base is, to simply tell the artillery/rockets to fire there?

Re: Artillery and Ripple Rocket (stationary) turrets
you can build a mobile sensor (sensor on a vehicle) or a commander.
Fixed sensors work all as a huge sensor, and will allow your ripple rockets to shoot at what ever is closer in its range. Also CB tower has priority over normal sensor tower.
Ripple rockets also have a minimum range at which they will fire, if I'm not wrong it 8, so everything closer to 8 blocks from the ripple rocket wont get killed by them.
The mobile sensor works as a target pointer where you can select what you want them to shoot, unless. they have a closer target to them and wont listen to you.
Commander on the other hand, has a nice button to overwrite any other sensor signals and tell the arty (stationary) to shoot at what he is targeting as priority.
Hope it helps.

Re: Artillery and Ripple Rocket (stationary) turrets
Thanks. I think what was confusing me before was that was trying to make more than one commander/sensor be in charge of the support artillery/rockets. I tried again and let one mobile sensor be in charge of support fire, and it worked great. I was able to pick the enemy off one by one from a distance. Also, it seems like it is better to let the mobile sensor direct support fire rather than commanders, because the commanders always try to get in close and get themselves killed.winsrp wrote:you can build a mobile sensor (sensor on a vehicle) or a commander.
