STOP annoying start research clicks >New reserach philosophy

Everytime i start a new internet match i have to research everything new... Clicking new research topics all the time is annoying.

It isnt a solution just to enable all research topics for all players. That is boring.

I think i have got i nice solution for this problem. I suggest a completely new research philosophy. Think of a list of research topics with their corresponding costs (research points) next to them, like this:

Turret X 100
Turret Y 60
Turret Z 40
Research Upgrade One 50
Research Upgrade Two 80
...

Now lets say every player finds a button in the multiplayer menu in future saying "My research topics". Each player has 10.000 research points which can be allocated to different research topics. The points are not enough to get all research topics. You have to decide which technologies you prefer!

In the game the research topics get automatically researched by your research facilities. A higher number of research facilities increases the research speed (like it is currently).

I hope you understand my suggestion ;)

I understand,and it's good idea,maybe complicated.
But all things should be much more expensive,
and maybe research facilities make research points,
for what you later instantly buy tehnology,instead of waiting to reasearch tehnology.
But then research facilities should be ordered to make defined number of points.
But,research tree should be kept,so you reveal things as you buy more technologies,
instead of buying f.e. fortresses at beggining of game.

there was talk a while ago of making research facilities work semi-autonomously.

though, the easy option for you, as i see it, would be to start your game on tech 2.

I see this as a mechanic that rewards for timing and multi-tasking that should be left alone. Without it the game would be that much slower at the start.

Neither is the energy you start with. On "realistic" (2-6 oils in base) maps, there isn't enough oil in your base to support five research facilities and thats not including any factories. You have to choose the techs that you're gonna need to claim oil in the early stages of T1 games. Another reward for mutli-tasking and concentration.

Sorry for my unclear wording: You are right. I meant the speed measured in "topics per minute", not the speed of a single topic. This isnt increased by multiple research facilities.

Your right. But when i play a game i dont want to do an activity therapy, by clicking the same topics during every game. If a have the chance to make my game a bit more intelligent (make it remember the topics) i would use it.

By the way: Perhaps we dont need a new menu etc. We could implement the function like that.

You play a new match and check an option called "remember my research order". Then you do all the research and in the next game you select the option called "if i enable auto-research during game, use last saved research order"

That way, there is only an array of UWORD to be saved, containing the order of research topics.

Well If you want ot make researches automated it's cool. But If tomorrow you would make factories automated, than Automated trucks...... than There is nothing left from game if make it's all automated. IMHO

May be if to make in-game players guide than helps with navigation in techtree - it would be better. IMHO. :ninja:
