Problem, any help would be cool thanks :)

Post by KainZero »

Hi, first of all I'm new here, but I used to have Warzone for the PS1, anyway the problem I'm having is speed issues, my PC (am not computer savvy so appollogys in advance) should be able to run this with no problem, I tried the Re-done version and I also tried the old one from a site I found, it loads but it takes forever, the sound constantly skips and it runs so badly its unplayable, now I know the new version has a load of new stuff so I expexted some issues, but even the original from 1999, that should work fine, ill list some of my PC's specs if that helps:

Operating System: Win XP SP3
Processor: Intel Celeron 850Mhz
Memory: 254Mb RAM
Graphics: Intel 82810, 32.0Mb
Sound: Intel Intergrated Audio
Direct X 9

If I need to add more infomation then just say, I heard Intel stuff has issues with games anyway, but Ive got games with specs above Warzones working perfectly, this game is a classic to me so any explanation or help would be great, thanks in advance. :)

Install drivers? Not even necessarily the newest ones; I've heard there's an older one that works a lot better with Warzone. I think whippersnapper knows which one that is.

Ewww... is that? ...An On-Board Video Card???

Also... are you in 16-bit or 32-bit Desktop mode?
(it matters a HUGE amount with XP so see if you can change from one to the other)

Thanks for the replys, I'll try older drivers, and I can only switch between 16 and 24 bit for the desktop, On-board graphics are the bane of my life, I got PS1 version of this working with an emulator, but it PS controls which suck, its better than nothing but I'd still rather use the PC version due to the mods and updates.

Your 32MB of Vid Mem are indeed your bane.....

That said... and after doing what has already been suggested.... try turning off all non-essential apps running in the background. I use the free proggy "What's Running" to handle that and it's useful for other stuff as well ( http://www.whatsrunning.net )

Next.... open your Intel® 82810 Graphics Control Panel and Press the 3D Settings Button which will give you access to the OpenGL Settings Panel.... play around with those settings trying to find the optimal set-up for your resource situation that is also the minimal essential to running WZ 2100 v.2.2.3, the latest WZ Project release (SEE Screen Capture Attached Below). In-game start-up Graphics Options also can reduce game GFX demands by running in windowed mode, turning shadows off, lowering your texture size, etc. Fiddling with both the game GFX Vid Options and the Intel Chipset OpenGL settings can be a PITA but there is no way around that trial & error procedure, I'm afraid.

If your running the Retail release v.1.10 from 1999 your best bet is to do it under the latest Direct X in SW Mode (neither supported in the v.2... Project Binaries) &, of course, in XP compatibility 16 bit mode. Best of luck. :)

I meant to ask something, this is a stupid question but you guys will know best, when the source code was liberated and work started on the new versions, was something to do with the graphics taken out or modified, because I have the retail version 1.10 and it runs perfectly yet the new versions and all those in the past hardly run at all, so I was curious, apart from the obvious improvements over the original (and that fact my PC has seen better days and Intel suck), what parts of the graphics engine were removed and/or changed, just out of curiosity.
Thanks

Apparently there was, but I would strongly recommend against stepping on that land mine the way I did...

Yeah, we've been steadily increasing our graphics requirements. It was the switch to OpenGL that caused most of the problems; modern video cards usually lag behind on their OpenGL support (it was done because DirectX isn't supported on operating systems other than Windows). We don't have enough developers to maintain a legacy video mode; sorry.

Nah I aint botherd I can still play the retail and their is some mods for it, but the screenshots ive seen of the new versions are cool stuff, I got my mate to download it, so I can see the new version, plus am doing a course on computers anyway, so at some point I may be able to help in someway, I hope this project stays up and running, Ive seen alot of mods sites/fan sites simply fall by the way side, shame really, thanks for the answers.

Don't worry, there will be plenty of time for you to upgrade your own machine with more compatible parts in the interum before that new shiny version with the more advanced textures is completed with higher-poly models, stability, and QoL stuff...

...I was playing just last night infact and noticed it was actually missing some of the nicer gameplay interface features the Less "prettied up" version has (like no-restriction rearming pad placement & arty emplacements giving fire support to sensor drones)
