New Sequences

Post by steel »

I've just tried to use the new sequences and I dont think I can get them to work.

I put the new sequences file into the game directory named as sequences.wz and removed the old sequences.wz and sequences folder. When I run the game the sequences are still exactly the same size and with all the same artefacts and I cant see a difference.

I tried removing the sequences.wz entirely and then the game just skips the cinematics and plays them when i replace it, but there isnt a discernable change. I even reinstalled it with them there.

Is there something I did wrong?

From everything I have read the newer ones just use a higher bit rate. They still look bad since the source material is poor.
No matter how hard they try, trying to double/triple resolution just makes it look worse. Much worse. That is why you should view them at 1x, and forget 2x or fullscreen.
This is a waste of space. Something important should be here.

Well, obviously I'm biased, but imo the new videos are watchable in fullscreen (21" display) - nothing to write home about, but (barely) ok, especially compared to the old ones with their eye-cancer-inducing artifacts that are offensively obvious even with 2x only.

I'm not sure why you had a sequences folder, you should just have had the sequences.wz. But anyway, since you didn't get any videos after removing both, there is no stray file anywhere. Not sure why you see no difference, to me its obvious - you didn't use the same videos both times (just to make sure - the new ones are ~540 MB, the old ones ~160MB and available several times on the Gna server)?

What resolution you using on your 21" monitor? I tried fullscreen on my 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor, and it was pure crap.
1x was OK, 2X had pretty bad artifacts, fullscreen was the worst.
The low quality ones, 1x was fair, 2x had tons of artifacts, and lets not even talk about fullscreen.
Understand, I know that is pretty much the best you guys could do, so I am not really complaining.
