Will there be a new version with updated graphics, etc?
Is anyone working on a graphics update? if so i think that more weapon types should be added, along with better textures on the maps. I don't care for the way the cities look in the game, and i think more lighting, and less color would look better. Is it possible to create new models of everything without messing with the code too much?

Warzone doesn't seem to be the game for you.

Re: Will there be a new version with updated graphics, etc?
I find myself personally opposing aesthetic reworking of the game.
I know, it's to keep it modern and competitive versus all the modern games we have, but a complete overhaul? I want to play the same game. I'd rather see people working entirely on the mechanics and gameplay than making it "flashier." That kind of aesthetic focus is a turn that many games took that leads to a downward spiral.
For example Final Fantasy 7 was a mediocre game, who's entire fan-base is comprised of either people who grew up with the game, were captivated solely by it's original innovation and now have personal sentiment as opposed to actual appreciation for it's quality which is-and was always-lacking yet to this day claim it to be the superior game to any other, that or folks who got suckered into the entire anime appeal of it, once again, all aesthetics.
I don't want to live to see Warzone's true fans become overshadowed by that "play with my eyes" kind of fan.

Actually.. WZ does need a graphics overhaul. We even wanted to do that kind of overhaul back before the source was released and probably could have just with PIE Slicer.. we just lacked enough artists to make it a reality

Well, I mean, we are overhauling the graphics.
Have you seen the new terrain engine, and all that?

Re: Will there be a new version with updated graphics, etc?
Have the latest installed but have only played the first 3 missions so far. I miss WZ... Think I might have to reinstall the original and play 1.11 just so I can watch the jump cyborgs fly around
Now THAT was a pain to get back into the game. Ah how times have changed... At least the source is out, if only we had it at the peak of NEWST the things we could have done... maybe.
Anyway, the WZ engine was never designed for flashy DoWII style graphics so that will take awhile to get running.. although you could tear out the graphics engine and replace it with some more modern. Either way though you are looking at a lot of work to either A. Modernize the current graphics core, or B. Swap it out for something like the Nebula Device 3D engine (on its 3rd version almost). So it looks like (so far) the original graphics engine is just getting some slow n steady updates. The bigger question is what is the max poly count the models can currently support (2.x.x) as well as the textures for those models. You can't update the 3D models too much w/o having to update the textures used. A slow increase on the model details would be nice or doing touch up work on the textures.
Of coarse I could just be wasting space as I havent had enough time to look into the state of the current engine. Will deffinately have to compare some of the engine code from 1.10 and now

.
You can read about the NEW Terrain Render Engine here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2383
AND you can see it in action by downloading a Trunk Build here: http://guide.wz2100.net/files/builds/
Get the full dl first then replace with the latest binary .exe - same directory location for both dls.
Btw the way - we have a shared WZ history that goes back a decade now.

I guess. I totally forgot about the ability to run high polly models. But i did mean redoing alot of textures too. Even just redoing textures alone could make the game look a bit better.

Actually, we're using a significantly newer OpenGL engine. It just looks mostly the same because we're using the same old textures and models in the current version. If you look closely, though, you'll notice that everything looks a lot less grainy, and there are shadows.Lord Apocalypse wrote:Anyway, the WZ engine was never designed for flashy DoWII style graphics so that will take awhile to get running.. although you could tear out the graphics engine and replace it with some more modern. As Whipper and I have mentioned, we're working on better terrain for the next version, too.

Yeah, i think better terrain and textures could make it alot better. the vehicle models aren't that bad.
