new structure idea
a shield generator (small 1x1 emplacement) that targets nearest structure. you guys can determine how many structures it should protect. it should be able to be turned off and takes minor damage if targeted directly. it should also be linked directly to your power guage to dissuade from using it too early.

to make so you dont get invincible with this the walls take 5 hits and no damage then after 5 hits the wall piece must rechearg for 5 sec
when activated each wall piece uses 1 power per sec
or something like that...

I like the idea of shield generators but the sci-fi element is a risk factor. A lot of warzone technology has a degree of science fact riding upon it and so effort should be placed into making the shield generator less 'unexplained'.
That being said I am not knocking the concept (I would have come forward with similar sooner or later). In the spirit of a shield generator it would have an upkeep (energy cost), a capacitance (virtual hp) and a recharge rate.
There is also the matter of method of deployment and for this purpose I shall use a shield generator hardpoint as an example. I can see one generator, when active, generating a shield aura 1 square in radius beyond the hardpoint and just above. I can see two generators with a space of two spaces between them generating sufficient shielding to bridge the gap as well as the immediate space of the hardpoint itself (increasing resilience).
I can see a generator being more effective against thermal weapons than kinetic weapons and that upon depletion of energy (imagine a generator that is slowly recharging (think heavy cannon recharge rate) the hardpoint needs to regenerate basic integrity of the shield - resulting in a 'non-active' recharge 3 times longer than regular charge (at which time the shield is reinstated).
Again, the question is, what sort of science fact is this to be based on?

There were ideas of strucktures with multiple slots.
Maybe you could then just place it there on one of that slots (like Earth 2150 it has that feature the shields blocking the very strong energy weapons)

though in reality it would be a particle accelleration laser/beam cannon.
i really dont like the idea of shields, sounds too starcraft/starwars/startrek.
the most you could ever hope for with a 'shield' is depolarisation (to a degree) of energy/particle weapons, possibly destabilise a plasma weapon so it collapses before impact...
what we really could do with is THEL and other such countermeasures
