What is the difference in making a map and a mod?

Get some help with creating maps or modding.

What is the difference in making a map and a mod?

In another words how do I make my map become a mod? Because I assume there is something I must do other than compile the map. What is it? I finnally got my custom unit to show up in the map editor but when I compiled the map it don't show up in the game. So I am assuming that it has to be in the form of a mod. Also after the map is made everything in the 3d veiw of the editor turns black? And if I try to load the map as an lnd it give error about the data set then goes through something about every pie file. since my unit used parts from all original data sets I asssume I need no custom pie file.

Btw a link to any help files about making mods would be fine!!!

Wow I just open ntw mod. And thats a lot of stuff in there. Sure hope someones got a tutorial on that.

Ok I know that I am answering my own post... Anyhow I created a zip file with winzip in the zip format and added the stats folder were my changes to templates.txt are. Then I changed the name from zip to wz it seemed to work expect the new unit didn't show up.. Any thoughts on this? please help. What are the files I need to add to get my new unit to show up?

Units in templates.txt are hidden, unless you set the always appear column to 1. I forget which column that is.

You could alternatively just use the "give all" cheat, which will make your template appear.

i believe whipper was just helping some one with that exact same question / problem.... cant remember which thread but it was just recent... last few days to one week or so.... :3 :3 :3 xD

I tryed the give all cheat and everthing in the warzone world showed up in the build list which is kinda kewl but my unit still don't show up in the vtol factory. Also the factory is removed from the map when It is compiled also the unit I created is removed. I have noticed in the mod wz files that I have there are alot of files included in them. I try to copy them to my stats directory but it crashed the edit world. I assume this is because they have been compress previously.
I am going to look at the source files for warzone and see what is in them that maybe useful.
If I can get this figured out about making custom units show up in my mod I can proceed with making my map\mod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
