keyboard glitch in 2.1.1 on ubuntu 8.10

I've installed warzone 2100 2.1.1 on my ubuntu 8.10 machine (512MB RAM, AMD Athlon XP 2600+, Nvidia Geforce 6200) through the .deb files at getdeb.net and noticed a strange and annoying glitch or bug. I'm not entirely sure if it's something in ubuntu or in Warzone, but I haven't encountered it elsewhere in the system.
In the middle of a multiplayer match the game suddenly jumped out of full screen mode to windowed mode, and the keyboard was locked down (I couldn't alt-enter back to full screen mode, nor use any keyboard shortcuts or chat with my friend through the game) until i switched to the second (virtual) desktop and back.
At first I thought it could be something similar to a bug I encountered while playing the windows version about 6 months ago, where the keyboard and GUI of the game would occasionally hang for about half a minute if you had shift-clicked to make a construction queue.
Later this night I played a skirmish game (still on the same ubuntu computer) and noticed the same behaviour, though this time I had made sure I had not used any keyboard shortcuts at all. It's really strange, as if the game suddenly thought I had pressed alt enter or alt tab to get out of full screen mode, but sadly I can not give any real help on what kind of things I did in the game that caused it (and therefore I have not yet filed a bug report, but I will if I manage to find a pattern).

What kind of motherboard do you have?

it's an ASUS K7V motherboard, and I have Windows XP with the windows version of Warzone 2100 installed on the same computer, and the problem does not appear there.

Random Guess: your window manager and warzone are fighting over some key combos - maybe SOMETHING-FNKEY. Note that the windowmanager always wins.

Really? I though that a fullscreen SDL window eats all keypresses. To me it sounds more like another application (popup notification or something) forces Warzone out of fullscreen mode.

I have a computer that I now use for parts: Chipset VIA, AMD cpu, and NV add on graphic card. as soon as I installed that Graphic card there were random system hangs, freezes, and full lockups while running Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 but I had a AMD64.

And I do remember on this same computer if I hit alt-enter enough times ( full screen to windowed and back ) sometimes my mouse and keyboard stopped working ( one or the other or both ). I removed the card and the all the issues with that pc stopped. I gave the card to some one I work with and he has not no issues.

you could be right about that, I just encountered my first random hang in ubuntu today. But it might be worth to mention that the jump to window mode happened very often (I don't remember exactly how long we played our multiplayer match before we gave up, but the keyboard lockup and jump to window mode happened 3 or 4 times). I have played other full screen games on the ubuntu system without encountering any similar problems (Nexuiz, UFO: Alien Invasion and Alien Arena), but I have also encountered another keyboard problem with the motherboard that seem unrelated to the operating system, if I boot the computer while having another computer selected through my KVM switch, the keyboard won't work on the computer until rebooted (but I have not switched to another computer while playing Warzone). I suppose I should try 2.1.1 out on my other Ubuntu system and see if I encounter anything like the problem there, but I'm not sure that computer is fast enough to handle the game.

I've tested the game some more, and it would appear you are right. I could play an entire match if I started out in window mode without any problems, so it would seem something else is forcing it out of fullscreen mode, but I never saw any other windows (or notifications) poping up.
