13 million polygons!

Post by cathuria »

Okay -- that's a bit exaggerated; I only had to construct less than 50k 'actual' poly's for the vehicle, but with adaptive subdivision and all the instances for the barrel, treads, and grills, the renderer calculated 13.5M poly's at rendertime. I know the Dev's are talented folk and I imagine that the improvements they are making to the real-time game engine should be able to handle a model like this without much problem.
(Just kidding!!)
Also, my apologies for my absence for the past few months -- it's been a heckuva year (and then I broke a tooth).

But anyhow, allow my to present my little 'Angel of Death' . . . the Gauss Cannon Vengeance Tracks.

Wow, that looks great! I was trying to make a render myself, but discovered that my abilities in using lightwave and blender were far from good enough to produce anything good.

There's one thing I think you could try to fix though, the fire looks far too desaturated and dark, perhaps you could make it more luminous and add som bloom to make it look more shining and realistic, and have it light up the surroundings a bit more (like some red/orange light on the blocks right outside the doors/windows of the house).
Everything else looks great though, very moody colours and the tank model looks great.

Damn that's awesome!

no other words xD

And railgun is my favourite weapon, that's it (not regarding Warzone only, but weapons in general. I particulary like the one from Quake IV)

Wow! That is nice. I found myself staring at it for three minutes, then I wanted it as a desktop background.
The green camo is a nice effect, as it blends with the building in the background. I love how its dark, and gritty, just how a post apocalyptical setting should feel like.

I’m guessing this is not your first art. I’m going to have a look at the others you might have done on this site. I’m so eager to post this now and take a look see!

Thanks for the comments, folks...
Fisk0: I experimented with various lighting options, and I found a brighter background overpowered the foreground; I merely wanted the background to frame the tank -- but then, that's just mah own artistical sensibilities ;) (although that red glow on the ground is a good idea...)

elio: this is all done in Modo 3D, with a great deal of post-work in Gimp.

And as for the size of the barrel -- well, yeah, the game models have a cartoony exaggeration which I like and I retained for my image of the Pepperpot (just love those gigundous barrels), but I did want a more 'realistic' look for this baby. Even at that, it's launching a 120mm projectile, which is no pop gun :)

Here's a couple 'beauty shots' for ya all:

and one in classy b&w:

looks good. It would be very cool if you could do a mid shot render with the rail emerging from the barrel glowing white hot providing most of the scene lighting (not sure if blender does ray tracing?).

The first image in this topic... That's the best warzone-related piece of art I've ever seen... Also looks great as desktop background! Keep up the good work!

:D thank you very much that you're making a FMV for warzone... :ninja: :P

( btw all the newest low poly models are stored here, feel free to do what you want: http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/warzone/originals/ )
