Stop building?
Stop building?
Is there a terrain type that stops the building of structures but allows units to travel through?
Re: Stop building?
Well, if it's not level, you can prevent large structures from being built.

* Short answer - yes. But it is a slick combo of terrain types actually.
* It was one of my principle design goals for the creation of Citadel Elite map / mod which goes back a long ways to the day of .wdgs which means it will run only on Pumpkin v.1.10 unless you can convert to run on the WRP binary. If your interested I can give you the file so you can see how it's done. It has a ton of other kwel mod stuff - first appearance of flying trucks (GPM Balanced) and dual heavy cannon, (among other new GFX) as well as a custom a.i. to boot. Many of it's original components have been heavily recycled since '99 except for that terrain-type combo your interested in.

* EDIT:
* The above method involves an unusual application of combinatorial terrain tertiles.
* There is also a second technique to achieve this end of no-build but still unit passable by the creative use of Terrain FEATURES. This technique is rich in ways to achieve the desired ends...including making "swamp lands"... (though this last requires some art skills).

Re: Stop building?
so your way is just plonking down a small feature every few squares? like a boulder? I can see that as workable (although they can be destoyed by players)

Re: Stop building?
* Yep. One way. Map features are destructible, as you say, in the original. But map features can be modified in both their GFX and HPs to create "Swamp Land" (among other things... in this case using "Boulder 1"... if your interested, I can give you the recipe..) Can travel through such a swamp land but you cannot build on it or destroy it.so your way is just plonking down a small feature every few squares? like a boulder? I can see that as workable (although they can be destoyed by players)
* Now getting back to doing this using tertiles. You can designate any tertile as impassable... and it does NOT have to look like cliff face... On "Citadel Elite" an active volcanic field was made as impassably 'cept for a 1 x 1 roadway that allowed borgs passage throughout the lava field but nothing could be built in that region.
* Also.... if you make "Islands" or "Mountain Plateaus" that are isolated zones onto themselves... and you do NOT place a Gateway in that region - then you cannot build in those regions...
