Tutorial Video

Post by kipman725 »

Hello I have put together a short tutorial video to show people why they keep loosing to me and pitman. Unlike some players asseresions this is not due to us "cheating" or exploiting the game in any way. This video shows how we construct bases and the order I sometimes use. I initialy tried to make this video in linux but the video capture for openGL and video editing tools were hopeless so unfortunatly It ended up as a .wmv. All music is free to use the start music is from warzone (GPL) and the end music is Maggie Doucet - Sonnet 116.mp3 that is creative commons licensed. I hearby release this video portion and my commentry to the public domain.

I'm sure there are ways of doing this even faster, so if anyone thinks they can I invite you to also make a video. If we had enough video tutorials it would help players get into the game faster.

Well... erm... I assure other people that the second track is not (even close to) my preferred genre of music... also kip doesn't sound quite as gay or nasally as that in real life.
Corrections: 'press and hold shift'

Notes:
These tactics are only really applicable to this or other small two player maps with a bottleneck and would probably only work against a cpu. You don't usually need really early combat units against a human player (as an awful lot of the online players seem to turtle *sigh*).
The computer ai appears to have a set build routine that it first must complete before it really starts sending wave after wave of units at you, kip didn't really give it enough time... the ultra hard ai can be countered by rushing at the start and building turrets in it's base.

Shameless plug time: A few months back I did a video of me on Sk-Rush beating a single skirmish AI. The torrent for it can be found here: http://www.gameupdates.org/details.php?id=2128 (OGG Theora).

Capturing on Linux is not too hard -- I wholeheartedly recommend recordmydesktop for such a purpose, which (on the right setting) has no trouble capturing OpenGL windows. Editing is a bit trickier, but still within the realms of possibility.

Regards, Freddie.

Well on the video editing front I tried every single free software video editor in multiple versions I could find:
KINO (not the right tool)
Cinerella (community edition from apt repos (unmet depandancies that I don't know where to get), Community SVN (won't compile), Heroin virtual edition (won't compile code is horribly buggy I ended up adding in aload of includes they missed out and eventually reached the limit of my c knowledge in fixing it).
Open Movie Editor (SVN + Repo versions, SVN won't compile due to my FFMpeg been too recent and it using depreciated code, Repo version I couldn't get the sound to work, although video editing worked well).
Blender (I think you can use this for video editing but it just crashed on me all the time).

On the capture front all the easy to use capture tools crashed and I was by this time not in the mood for fiddling with software that spat out thousands of images.

I like Linux and use it pretty much all the time but it kind of fails at video editing for me, the potential is there as the tools are good if I could get them to work!

*downloading your vid now (leeeeeetttsss seeeee howwwww gooood you aaaarrrre ;) )
