I am back in the game

I played the game on PSX and then had to sell my PSX and haven't played it recently until I downloaded the original version of the game for some nostalgia. During the course of finding the game online I stumped across the knowledge that there is an active fan base and the game is now free.

So, what has been improved? What has changed? Between the original game version and what the fan-base is putting out?
